Josh Todd joins Queens on an emergency loan. Ie, we've played you four times, and you have three games yet to play against our closest rivals. Shrewd move, IMO.

I hope he scores fucking tonnes for you!

Where you hearing this or am I being woooooshed?

I always thought he was an attacking CM. I assume I've always thought wrong?

That's a decent signing. Any time he's played for us he's looked good, so unlucky with injuries. Hopefully he can get a few games under his belt before the end of the season and come back to us ready to fight for a place next year.

We played him on the wing, where he was fine without ever actually doing anything of note. I always thought he'd maybe be more effective in behind a striker (or maybe even in a five man midfield) but we never really got to see that when he was at the Rock.

I hope he does well though. I've a lot of time for him considering he played for us for expenses and worked part-time in a petrol station in Carlisle (or somewhere close to that) to pay the bills.

Edit: The petrol station was in Canonbie actually I think. Not that it makes any difference, but I like these things to be accurate.

Good loan signing for Queens - Todd is a good player who should do well for you. Hope he gets a new deal as well with us.

I'm happy with the addition but given we're hopeless with a midfield 5 yet have continued to try it, I don't like that sentence that he'll fit into a midfield 5 :/

Is he out of contract after this season?

He is - only got a one year deal last season. Think Jack likes him as a player so would hope he might get a deal for next season. He's looked pretty decent in the fleeting appearances he's managed for us and I'd like to see him get a chance to show what he can do.

He played a few games as a striker and behind the striker for us IIRC. I was never really impressed with him, hard worker and not the worst technically but didn't have a huge amount of pace or strength and I'm not really sure where he'd be best played.  He's not a winger though and he's not a better centre midfielder than Thomson, so it looks a strange signing for Queens to me. Like you, I wish him well. He could have taken the money at Annan and continued playing at League 2 level but sacrificed his wage to test himself at a higher level, I admire that a lot.

My guess is that he will play wide left as a replacement for Dykes. Formation tonight will be the same as Saturday, but with Fergusson dropping out and Thomas playing on the right. Possible that Todd may play on the right, though. Either way, it will be one up front, with Fergusson on the bench. When we’re not playing one of the superpowers, he might stay in the team at the expense of Thomson or Rankin.

The manager stated at the event on Saturday that his preferred formation is 4-2-3-1.  Presumably Todd will play in one of the three behind Dobbie (when fit).

If we are to use that formation I would rather Dobbie made up part of the three and one of Lyle/Fergusson/Dykes/Todorov acted as the main focal point.  4-2-3-1 already has a tendency to turn into a 4-5-1 and Dobbie likes to drop deep to collect the ball which effectively makes it a 4-6-0.

If the system is there then I guess we should use it to our potential advantage.

However, it seems too easy to resort to this.

I thought the point of having a squad was to cover injuries.

As I understand it, we have one striker injured - Dobbie-  which leaves 4  available if you include Dykes, which our Manager certainly does.

That is more than ample numerical cover especially given we only usually play one strker anyway.

The game has become ridiculous with the excessive number of subs allowed and various loan systems.

I wish the lad well but imagine our Manager will invent some elaborate plan that will detract from any attacking threat he may possess.

Another loan signing who won’t play! How many loan signings this season? Hopefully this one actually offers something if he actually plays.

We have taken a whole 4 points using that system*. 3 against Brechin and 1 against Dumbarton. It's not exactly effective so I've no idea why he sees it any differently.

* That's based on the OS formations. 5 games though I'm convinced we used it a lot more than 5 times.

I think that`s a bit harsh. Kane and Kerr were excellent loan signings. Thomas has already made a decent contribution and while I`m not convinced Thomson was what we needed he has featured regularly. Your comment is probably fair re Cameron and Beerman  though both were signed  as squad cover for injuries (Fordyce and Marshall)  which was sensible from my point of view. Likewise the short term loan signing of a keeper (Lyle)

I think Kane gets more favourable reviews than he maybe deserved over the piece.

He ended his spell quite strongly and has done alright since.  For much of his time here though, he was pretty disappointing, with something of a specialism in missing one on ones.

Since Kane and Kerr left, we’ve only beaten Brechin and Dumbarton. The other 7 games (including potential play-off opponents Thistle in the Cup) have featured 2 draws and 5 defeats, although 2 of the defeats were to St.Mirren. And, of course, Dobbie has been out latterly.
