That's exactly what the Dykes deal was. Livi gave up a sell on fee in order to secure his services 6 months later (they have been burned by pre-contracts before though). We didn't get any fee up front, but basically made a no risk bet on his future (which turned out very well for us).

Ah, I see. That sounds fair enough.

Not sure, If I am missing something. If he signed a pre-contract with another club, he could stay with us and his new club would get him in June.

Why would they want to buy him now, just to loan him back to us (when they could get him for free in the summer)?

Granted, any fee we received would be likely to be pretty small. However, I don’t think a buy-to-loan back makes sense in this case

Same as Livi did with Dykes cause atleast they have got ther man stops other clubs coming in for him....

Glad they didn't but why did Livi not just sign Dykes on a pre contract surely that means he would have signed for them in the summer if not what is the point of a pre contract .

The Dykes was a great deal for us better than anyone could have hoped for .

Hopefully players will only sign pre  contracts just now don't want to lose the likes of Shields .

Because pre-contracts aren't a guarantee the player will join. It's intent but if a bigger club came in at the death Dykes could have turned Livi down.

My understanding is that there is nothing legally binding about a pre-contract agreement and that Livi had been burned before by players signing PCAs then changing their mind.  Hence their keenness to do the deal in January.

It was a smart move by both clubs really.  Obviously only the two clubs know the nitty gritty details of the transfer but from what has been said -

Livi got their man without paying an upfront fee (or perhaps they paid a "nominal fee"), instead they gave us a sell on clause and loaned him back for 6 months, and the loan meant we got to keep Dykes for as long as we were likely to anyway.

He then moved to QPR and both clubs earned record transfer fees.

Our Scottish cup game has now been postponed. As well as all football below the championship.
Find that a bit strange. If the top two leagues are still playing you'd have thought any games featuring teams from those leagues could still go ahead. It would get them out the way of the backlog.

That was my first thought too. Better to be safe than sorry though and I wouldn't  really be surprised if they extended the ban to all levels of football in the next week or so.  Call the leagues now and see if "the rangers" fans don't recognise it as a title win.

Not a bad bit of timing from QOS there then if that happens .......... handy to get a couple of wins in the last two games and move up to 8th in the table! 👍

Or if the Celtic fans do recognise it as Rangers title. Two cheeks of the same arse.

Guest TOPFITTER

Given the latest Covid related football news I was wondering if the SFA / SPFL have made any statements with regards to Gallowaygate ? Or maybe Queen of the South FC will fly under the radar and get away Scot-Free ? Maybe those "apologies" were seen as enough punishment !

Have Queen’s Park been punished for having Leeann Dempster at Hampden as a guest on Friday night ?

Sure if the tv/press cameras looked round the Scottish football stadiums during matches there would be plenty of people in stadiums watching games that shouldn't be.... These aren't isolated incidents, just high profile people....

Maybe just teams with "Queen" in their name that are stupid enough to get caught.

We could play the postponed ICT game on the 30th which would allow that game to be caught up.

Why was our game with ICT postponed?

Because their cup game on Saturday was postponed, so was scheduled to be played this mid-week

And that will have been cancelled as of yesterday's announcement?  Wondered if they would have made plans to try and play our game again maybe a day later.

They couldn’t test the players and get the results back in such a short time.
