Has it been discussed about getting in touch with Stagecoach? I notice in Carlisle the buses have the next 3 United fixtures plastered on the side of the buses. I'm skeptical that anything will increase crowd numbers but it would maybe be worth considering.

FFS don’t tell MT about this.

You’ve done a great job raising funds for the club and helping promote it throughout the years but not sure where your future lies. Meeting are attending by only a handful of people so I’m told and you actually must wonder if it’s worth the bother.
Time for a major rethink guys

Thanks Steeplechat. I don't think numbers at meetings is a problem it's the same with many groups and with a membership of 160-210 over the last 2 years support for the Trust has been good.

But yes some thoughts needed as to what next for the Trust. All ideas and suggestions welcome.

Andy Thomson? I've not got any exact dates (quick wiki) but could be 89 and 07.

Last goal for us v Livingston on 28th October 2006

I would need to check at home when his first goal was but although he joined in 1989 I don't think he was generally a first team regular until Frank McGarvey threw him in the following year 1990-91. Doesn't mean he didn't score the year before though. Likelihood is there's at least 16 years between his first and last though.

Andy Thomson's first goal for us was as a sub v East Stirling on 30th September 1989. Which means there were 17 years and 28 days between his 1st and last goal for us.

@Skyline Drifter any chance of an updated top scorers list? ;):)

As at 1st May 2018:

1 - Jim Patterson, 251 goals in 462 appearances, 1949 - 1963
2 - Bobby Black, 120 goals in 346 appearances, 1952 - 1961
3 - Derek Lyle, 117 goals in 269 starts (96 sub) appearancs, 2002 - 2004, 2004 - 2006 & 2012 - 2018
4 - Andy Thomson, 114 goal in 196 starts (35 sub) appearances, 1989 - 1994 & 2006 - 2007
5 - Stephen Dobbie, 108 goals in 171 starts (17 sub) appearances, 2007 - 2009, 2016 - Current
6 - Jocky Dempster, 98 goals in 342 starts (13 sub) appearances, 1970 - 1979
7 - Tommy Bryce, 95 goals in 283 starts (14 sub) appearances, 1985 - 1987, 1994 - 1998 & 1999
8 - Stevie Mallan, 94 goals in 233 starts (32 sub) appearances, 1993 - 2000
9 - Tommy McCall, 93 goals in 264 appearances, 1925 - 1934
10 - Ian Reid, 89 goals in 192 starts (5 sub) appearances, 1973 - 1978
11 - Jimmy Robertson, 89 goals in 378 starts (22 sub) appearances, 1979 - 1987 & 1989 - 1993
12 - Jackie Oakes, 81 goals in 457 appearances, 1936 - 1947 & 1951 - 1960
13 - Iain McChesney, 79 goals in 587 starts (28 sub) appearances, 1961 - 1982
14 - Rowan Alexander, 78 goals in 165 starts (18 sub) appearances, 1978 - 1983 & 1995 - 1998
15 - Billy Houliston, 74 goals in 155 apearances, 1945 - 1952
16 - Jackie Law, 71 goals in 226 appearances, 1936 - 1948
17 - John O'Neill, 70 goals in 143 starts (52 sub) appearances, 2001 - 2003 & 2005 - 2008
18 - Lex Law, 68 goals in 316 starts (18 sub) appearances, 1964 - 1975
19 - Jimmy Rutherford, 66 goals in 65 appearances, 1930 - 1934
20 - Willie Dougan, 65 goals in 88 appearances, 1922 - 1925

So Derek Lyle, barring some sort of Lazarus like return, finishes up with 117 goals and 3rd in the all time list (a podium position he'll likely hold for only a year). Disappointing that having made 117 before the end of November he failed to add a goal in his last six months. Injury kept him out for a couple of months of course. He made only 3 starts and 9 sub appearances in that time.

Stephen Dobbie is 5th with 108 goals coming into next season. Given he's managed 53 goals in a little under 2 seasons since returning, then he'll surely manage the 12 he'd need to become 2nd top all time scorer in the next year.

We should treasure the next year of him firing them in because, unless he does another season beyond that, I suspect it will be a long time before anyone else gets anywhere near that top 20. Players staying with clubs long enough to do it these days is less and less likely. The next highest scorer behind Dobbie in the current squad as it stands right now will be Lyndon Dykes on 12. It's fairly remarkable that we have three modern day players in the top five who most of us have seen scoring for Queens.

Feeling old..I’ve seen 14 of them!

Youngest goalscorer?  Believe it or not, Lex Law must be in or around there,  scored his first for Queens 26th August 1964 on his debut against East Fife. Signed from school so he must have been 17? How young was Maurice Elliott when he got his first?

Hugely disappointing .

Your wording suggests that is all down to the player himself but if I have got that wrong then surely you would have to agree that it  was down to extremely poor judgement by our Manager in not selecting him when fit and available and playing him up front with Dobbie  -  hugely intelligent, talented partnership.

Don’t think so, he’s done. Managers only regret may be giving him a contract for the past season. Great in his day and will be fondly remembered but last season was a season too far!

I'm not convinced that either of the two opposing views on Lyle immediately above, can be held or supported with total confidence.

I don't think we really saw enough of him to feel sure that he had either lots to contribute, or didn't.

It probably comes down to how you regard Naysmith.

I was of the opinion that Lyle would probably be no more than an impact sub at the start of the season but I can see some merit in this argument. I do think that it would have been a struggle to go through the season with a front two both in their mid-thirties and Lyle probably suffered the most from Dobbie’s presence.

Dobbie and Dykes seem to have formed a good partnership and will be vital next year. I’ve got a sneaking feeling that we might see Dykes take over from Dobbie as the main man at some point next season (  I know, but I’ve been out in the sun all day!) and I doubt he’ll be at Palmerston the season after.

Looking at our squad now we have Martin and Leighfield signed up so are fine in terms of goalies. Our signed centre backs are Fordyce and Brownlie, while Mercer is signed and can cover both full back roles. Hopefully his injury is ok. So we probably at present need another cb and 2 full backs. As for midfield  we have Jacobs and Bell signed from cm and our wingers consist of Stirling (who we may punt) and Murray. So Id reckon we need another 2 cm and another 2 wingers if Stirling leaves. Up top we have Dobs, Dykes and have made an offer to Fergusson. If Fergusson signs we would need 1 striker imo. So alll in all it looks to be a fairly busy summer again with 7/8 signings required. We may see squad fillers Tremble, Gourlay and Harvey feature more if the manager feels they are ready/if theyve been given contracts.

So who could we target? Well Naysmith likes cutting corners by adding versatile players so dont be surprised in the slightest if Todd is kept on. Dont like what Ive seen of him but he can play striker or as a winger so would appeal to Naysmith. Thomson if available is a no brainer signing but we face competition! As for the cb position immediate candidates that come to mind are Grant, Watson, Gilchrist and if available/punted Mvoto. As for the final cm position if we were to sign Thomson Id imagine Taiwo and Chris Millar will be a target for many. Ive not given up hope of Marshall staying but a likely/obvious candidate would be St Mirrens Irvine who could go rb with Mercer lb. ALso look out for Waters from Kilmarnock. A very likely candidate. As for the final winger/striker Id like us to go for Loy who I believe can still be a great player at this level. For the wing McDaid impressed me from Ayr when I seen them. Also if possible keep Thomas as I thought he was far better in his 2nd stint

I like Taiwo, players hate playing against him. Grant is also a decent player, isn't he only 28? Plenty of experience but other than Thomson I'm no too keen on the rest.
