It matters when it is the single defining aspect of any players contribution simply because “assist” can mean many things.

The guy getting the assist can beat three players, and set up a simple side foot for the striker.

The guy getting the assist can make a sideways pass on the half way line to midfielder who then beats a couple of opponents before firing a screamer into the top corner. All assists are nowhere near being equal.

How would you rate a 20 goal a season player if 19 of his goals came from penalties and what if he was a right back

That’s not the point of the original post though is it? The post was about how his assists come from corners. Set pieces are massive at any level of football and can decide a game. Rather than being negative all the time, why can’t we actually praise the fact we might have a decent set piece taker for once. Every few weeks we go around “Nesbitt is this, Nesbitt is that”. Whilst I’m not his biggest fan, it’s boring. McGlynn likes him, the rest of the league rate him. But a few folk on pie and bovril would have you think he couldn’t get picked for a game of 5’s at Coasters.

As far as the squad are concerned we are shopping in the bargain basement our level dictates therefore we get the appropriate quality of product.

The residue of players from last season failed and the support have to face the fact they were not good enough so no excuses for them.

With one or two exceptions if they were to get cleared out it would not give a toss. Hopefully some of the signed players will be moved on and the more the better.

We will be making 8-9 signings plus replacements for any of the squad players we are lucky enough to move on.

Like you I am not hopeful as the sad fact is that the quality we require ain't going to touch us with a barge pole because of reasons that have been well discussed on the forum.

The Council's fault?

Can’t stand Malky McKay but that arse collapse from Thistle was very funny.

Ross County were never in it until the penalty, that said even if County had gone down old Roy might not have had it all his own way writing cheques, Goodwin will be well backed at Utd as will Queens Park and Caley look a decent outfit Thistle missed the boat today but a handy side. Looking at the championship playoffs we are absolutely miles behind and if by some miracle McGlynn gets us up it's a complete rebuild job again. None of our current squad are good enough to compete at the top end of that league. Middle to bottom maybe.

Some miracle? That’s the spirit. You would be as well not bothering

Lets get out of this division and then reflect if the players on contract another year older for good or worse will be good enough for the targets set for the higher division. What would that target be? Just stay up-Avoid the play off-Challenge for promotion. Nobody knows till we take stock on who's on the books, who the manager is and the financial clout the club has which will dictate.
