The Falkirk FC Thread

Just watched the gaffer’s interview in advance of Wednesday & already value his refreshing honesty & real pragmatism.

No doubting who is in charge & real leader that can only mean one thing for any would be slackers in the dressing room.

Was disappointed that interview didn’t touch on recruitment though

All you would get is the standard working hard to get bodies in, talking to agents and players, etc. Even if a manager expects something to happen imminently they rarely comment in case an expected deal falls through and they end up looking silly.

The only question you might get an answer on is where he was looking to strengthen but I think it's pretty obvious that we need more up front.

There's a meeting with FSS members and the management team on Thursday. I'm guessing recruitment will be the first question everyone wants to ask about so you'll get an update soon enough.

The meeting holds 100 - and 75 tickets gone so far so if you want to attend and are a member of FSS then perhaps check the link in the new mailing for a free ticket.

Bookies have the Bonnyrigg game as a "pick 'em" match up... As the Yanks say.

Cannae see that.

Aye, squad needs maybe 3 players. But on the rumoured budget, McGlynn is highly likely to get this bunch to a points total that will go close to winning League 1 in an average year.

Bonnyrigg look of a standard that might be expected to come 3rd in a typical League 2.

3rd League 2 v. 2nd League 1 is not a "pick 'em" game in most seasons

Bairns should be 5-4 at most here. I'd say 11-10. Can get 8-5 with Betway and 7-5 most anywhere.

Just sayin', likesay

Tomorrows result would normally be a given, yes we’ve fallen but failure to secure a very comfortable win would be a huge negative for the season start. A comfortable 3/4 win.

Which team do you support as we are not playing until Wednesday 🤔

Who is going to score these goals?

It was a poor interview.

The interviewer hadn’t done his homework and stumbled through it.

You have a P&B reputation of -379 @Dawson Park Boy  pot, kettle by chance? Give the lad a break  😂. It’s John’s comments that count, surely.

Quite amazing the amount of know it alls within our support yet not a single person  was prepared to take on this role other than Nigel. I’d most probably have voted for him anyway as in his short stint so far he’s always come across well but it would have been nice if a few other candidates had thrown they’re  hat in to the ring.

Bear in mind that a Board(?) requirement was for 15 to 20 hours per week. That alone would have ruled out almost everyone. Would have liked to have seen a required variety of skills that could have ruled people in rather than solely a time commitment that was destined to rule out almost everyone currently in employment.

Who would want to be a Falkirk director? You would know that at some point you will be turned into a big bad wolf by our very fickle fan base!

The 15-20 hours was based on what the board told us was necessary to deal effectively with the challenges the club faces now. There wasn’t solely a time commitment though, other guidelines were suggested. Ultimately, it was a self-certifying process. The text we sent out is below.  I agree it’s a high bar, but we need good people who will put the time in.

The nomination window for our fans' director election is now open. The position is currently held by Nigel Serafini, who is entitled to stand again.

We need talented, experienced and highly committed Bairns to step forward and play a full role in rebuilding our club, as well as making a success of the fans’ director role.

Ideally with leadership experience, candidates should have strong communication skills and an ability to inspire confidence among the support, a track record in business or another profession, possibly a background in sports and, vitally, the time and energy to commit to our football club day-to-day.

Current directors estimate a commitment (outside matchday) of 15-20 hours each week. Candidates should have high levels of integrity be able to maintain confidentiality, be that about club finances, football decisions, or any other aspect. They should be able to balance the legal duties of being a company director with a need to represent Falkirk fans effective at the heart of the club. They will also be expected to promote FSS and wider fan ownership at Falkirk.

The position will last for two years, subject to club General Meetings’ continued agreement, and the successful candidate will be entitled to stand for re-election.

I get the need for good people, but I would have thought that the time commitment would be the negotiable part, and the skill set would be the mandatory part.

The potential may well have been there for other contenders to come forward with fabulous track records but who could only give 8 to 10 hours of quality work per week, and so were out of the running.

It’s not a slight on Nigel btw…..far from it. Simply my personal opinion that the time requirement made it near impossible for anyone in full time employment to even consider applying regardless of how good they may be.

Yeah, everything was negotiable, or at least nothing was mandatory. We just set out as clearly as we could what we thought was needed and invited folk to step forward. Ultimately it was down to folk to set out their stall to say what they could bring, then it’d be up to members to decide.
