Why was that money spent at all if there is now nothing in the pot to field a competitive team? You’re looking at at least 2 decent players who could’ve been signed this season instead. Findlay Malcolm is probably on buttons but that's another wage we're tied into from the second half of last season.

To be fair, the managers given a budget to use as he pleases. Rennie chose to spend that budget on Griffiths not the board. The money we spent on Griffiths was mostly from the B4L monies was it not? From what I gather they run in order to give the club money to spend on players in January which is what happened. Our issue this season is the contracted players are absolutely honking. If we pay them off that takes a chunk out our budget so we are relying on one of us winning the euromillions tomorrow night or someone being as stupid as Gary Holt in order to take them off our hands. Both of those things are about the same likeliness imo. McGlynn's said there's room for 1 or 2 more players in the budget and then some loans which means he's got to be very very selective with who he brings in. Probably why we've not made a signing in 3 weeks. Yeats should hopefully be offered a deal and you'd like to think he'd be on a relatively low wage so hopefully the 1 or 2 stretches to 3 and then bolstered by loans later in the window. The wage Griffiths was rumoured to be on will be higher than probably anything we’ve paid since being in the premier league, so I’d be astonished if the signing didn’t require board approval.

NavyBlueArmy1876
Well on track for that 2,500 imo We didn't hit the 2,000 mark until 20th July last season

Prefer white myself, would've like a similar away top to Motherwell's away one but white with red and blue stripe, very PSG. The red one closer up looks better than promo shots. We won't need to rush out a third kit this season cause both our strips are too similar tho

They have left a car crash of a pool of players, allowed a DOF/Manager to hamstring the club with player contract that are obviously making McGlynns job much harder.

There is a difference. We have players clearly nothing like good enough who have contracts that we are stuck with. I can guarantee you that is costing a hell of a lot more than the gamble on Griffiths Hopefully McGlynn can get shot but it will cost. Amazingly too no one seems to mention anything about having to fire a manager 4 months after giving him a deal for 2/3 years? Wonder how much that cost to clear him and Grainger out? The Board will have given Rennie a budget just like they will have McGlynn. They won’t be telling him to spunk it on one player or twenty.

I think that red kit is very smart, would look better if they tadgers didn’t have their socks all the way up like tights Same applies though as home strip, I’m far too fat and old to wear one

How often are you going to bang on about signing Griffiths, it was a gamble, a last throw of the dice, it didn’t work for numerous reasons, we move on. If we had Pie and Bovril in 1990 I’d guess you’d have been moaning about signing Simon Stainrod after seeing him in his first 2 or 3 games. We all know there’s no quick fix to moving forward again, but most of us are trying to show a bit patience in allowing the board and management make some improvements.

Never, ever, ever compare the signing of Stainrod to the signing of Griffiths. Never.

Agree with this, at the time in the position we were in taking a gamble on a player of Griffiths quality made sense to me and plenty of others on here seemed to agree at that time. Can understand why Rennie wanted him, in hindsight it didn’t pay off but that’s the nature of football. The wages he received (roughly 24k) over what was only a 4 month contract would have made very little difference to our budget in the grand scheme of things. Banging on about it is pointless , It’s a non issue for me. Edited June 30 by LatapyBairn.
