No you can’t, unless it’s whilst working notice.  That would potentially be constructive dismissal.  You either sack him for gross misconduct or other breach of contractual terms (difficult to argue potentially but would depend on contract) or make the role redundant.

Redundancy is a cheaper route to go down, but the club needs to be validly taking the post out of existence.  We can all see a valid argument for us not needing a DoF role, but it does need to be properly considered before acting.

Well yes but not for ever. Holt can be told the role is redundant and placed on gardening leave in lieu of a worked notice period.

He will continue to be paid his current salary until the end of his notice period and should we wish to we could reinstate the DoF role further down the line.

Indeed, but being very close to breaching employment law is fine. As long as you don’t breach it.

Exactly. Happened in my last company too. There s quite a lot of leeway for employers and it's very difficult to prove that 'Head of Logistics' .. a new role to replace 'Operations Manager' or something is the same.

True, but the last thing we’d want is to be taken to court and have a costly settlement.  Just do it properly.  As I say, we don’t need a DoF.

The NB guys were talking about getting Alan mcgonigal involved at some point. He could probably fill the need of having an individual involved with footballing knowledge  on the board whilst not actually doing the role of dof . You could then bullet Holt and his post and save 50k.

It's not really much of a surprise that we're in a right mess when people are criticising folk before their feet are even under the desk yet. At least give the patrons and fss guys time to sort things out before  getting fired into them.  People writing them off simply because Holt's still there at the moment when they aren't even directors of the bloody club yet.

I'm not getting fired into them and I totally agree we have to give them time to bed in. However, it is also true that emptying Holt is something that simply needs to be done. If they go in and don't do this, people will have every right to get on their backs.

Ditching playing out from the back was what M&M tried and that went terribly. Hoofball galore. Someone else by some miracle might get a tune out of the current squad but in reality we're most likely relying on a wave of new recruits in January to turn us around.

A right sided centre back to partner Dixon with Lemon as cover.

Another fullback for when Williamson inevitably gets injured again.

Two new centre midfielders unless the new manager thinks differently on Krasniqi.

A left winger and get Mcdaid back to Dundee.

Two strikers.

Basically a brand new starting 11.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying we should start playing aimless long ball football, I actually don't like it generally speaking. What I'm really referring to is the 'centre backs at each side of the area' stuff before they inevitably panic, try to find a team mate and inevitably lose the ball because the opposition can read it like a book! It hasn't worked but Sheerin either couldn't see that or was so stubborn that he's managed to work himself out of a job. (Not just for that reason of course).

Part of the reason that we can't play it out is because we don't have a decent defensive midfielder to play it to if Telfer is further forward. Krasniqi replacing Hetherington would solve that problem instantly. Nothing against Hetherington, he has some battling qualities but passing is hardly his forte.

100%.

Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll ever have anything resembling unity at the club because of the sort of behaviour we’re already starting to see on this thread.

Yep, I can't believe what I've read on here tonight, new guys going into a role for the right reasons and to do their best for the club and we've got people on here telling them to GTF already.

I'm as embarrassed as I was on Saturday reading these demands.

Who is telling 'the new guys' to get to f**k?

If you're referring to me I'm requesting the 'old guys' get to f**k.

Yes but it's going to take time. Let's worry about that if further down the line that hasn't happened . For the moment let's give them at least the benefit of the doubt.

Think sadly the first priority is probably to go ultra defensive and make ourselves really hard to breakdown. Difficult given the shitness of our defenders but with some organisation and structure a proper manager should be able to shut up shop somehow.

Trying to ignore the Holt thing now until Tuesday at least.. this is still a fantastic day. We've finally rid ourselves of the worst manager in the club's history.

Chapeau.

Chapeau? Can't mind of him having ever managed us, far less be the worst!

You're probably right. The key period is the January transfer window. It's not that important Holt is emptied this week,  as long as it's by month end.
