The Falkirk FC Thread

If it's all about safety then surely Alloa and Arbroath should have their fixtures suspended too but they aren't so safety can't be the number one reason behind this. All clubs were asked if they would be able to complete a 27 game season. Any who said no were allowed to mothball. All clubs said yes so any moaning about testing now have little excuse.  And once again the TV money certainly isn't propping us up. The cash we get is tiny and could be covered elsewhere quite easily so the TV deal going tits up would have very little affect on us.

Alloa and Arbroath are going to be tested every week from now on. That's why they're being allowed to continue to play.

Frankly that's balls.

How many times over the years have people moaned about them only caring about top flight, and screw everyone else.

What they mean is "Oh they only care about [the leagues above my team's league]".

Some of the whining on this thread is generally, and today specifically, fucking embarrassing.

So why are they saying that they are closing down league one etc mainly due to part time sides but allowing part time sides further up the leagues to continue.  If it's all about safety and stopping the spread then surely all part time teams should be prevented from playing just now not just certain ones.  Far too much of this is being controlled on past footballing ability and not what is actually deemed correct.

BECAUSE THEY'RE GOING TO GET TESTED EVERY WEEK

This has been explained numerous times

Nothing to stop league one sides testing every week. And anyway  that still won't stop anything. The tests take time to come back. Will these players be unable to go to their work till they get a negative test back?  So if part time is the issue stop all part time clubs don't pick and choose.

Apart from the prohibitive costs, you mean? Where are clubs meant to find the money for this?

Eh? So who gives a shit about our storied history then?

Alloa and Arbroaht are above us on footballing merit right now and that's all that matters. If they are part time, and are willing to submit to the testing regime, then on you go lads.

What is the last bit meant to mean? "not what is actually deemed correct? By who? They literally have deemed this course of action to be correct! Or did the fools not check out this thread for advice first?

Yes as has the fact that there is nothing to stop league one sides testing every bloody week.  The main point in the statement isn't about costs it's the part time element. Although costs are mentioned it isn't the be all and end all.

They were given 50k at the start of the season and have just been given 150k out of the blue from the government. Money they weren't expecting. They should have cash for testing no problem. If you read the statement it's the part time work aspect that outshines the costs involved.

The £150k is to keep clubs going. Not for testing.

Can I be the first to correctly predict that the Premier and Championship will continue and finish the season while the leagues below will be declared null and void.  No relegation from the Championship at the end of the season as a result means we'll be confined to League One for season 2021/22.

Is any other outcome remotely likely?

Yip.

Alloa, Brechin and Clyde all have members on SFA and/or SPFL boards. All saved from relegation with the covid grants in the back pockets.

This is bonus money for these clubs. Money they never knew they were getting. Clubs didn't budget for it in October   Some of that cash should be used to keep clubs operating via testing players.  Far better use than being forced to close for 3 weeks and have no income at all.  Testing is now far cheaper than it was back at the start anyway.

German clubs all cancelled trips during their leagues winter break as it was the right thing to do, unfortunately celtic have a huge support including those who couldn't find parkhead on a map so we have a government that needs to look like it's being tough but not wanting to upset a huge number of voters, so we get screwed again while the catalyst for this gets away with a very stern talking too, just bol*ocks again.

This was not a government decision

Can you please stop complaining?
It’s not going to change the fact that the spread of the virus means that our division as a WHOLE cannot sustain testing.
This is probably a gesture by the SPFL to keep football running at some level before the SG took the decision later this week to stop the entire card. Something that the SPFL cannot afford to happen due to their ties with TV....

You’d be as well asking Shadwell to stop breathing as stop complaining. He lives to complain.

This is down to one thing and one thing only TV contracts.  Both the top flight and championship have contracts to show games and are therefor being allowed to continue. It's got nothing to do with safety or the whole shebang would've been suspended.

I think due to Celtic’s actions in going to Dubai, the whole league set up is one more f**k-up away from the SG stopping all football at all levels.

At least that would be a far more understandable way to go. The fact that TV contracts are being seen as more important than people's health sums up the world today I'm afraid.
