If he gets in other players all around league 1 level on smaller contracts then this lot can still form the basis of a team that you add better quality to next year, if we go up. If you assume you need a squad of 22ish players then it makes sense to start with mid level championship lads on 2 year deals and add league 1 players around them on 1 year deals. Then the next year you swap them out for upper level championship/lower level premiership players around the mid level lads at zero cost. If Durnan and Buchanan look good together it's not a problem, if they look dodgy you can add someone more solid in next year and bench them as cover. Same for McShane, Maclean etc. I'm still more concerned about this right back situation to be honest.
