Wait, what?

Ten years ago we were established in the SPL and got to a cup final.

Now we're struggling in the Championship and got to a cup final.

... you don't think that's a decline?

5 seasons in the top tier in fuck knows how long is hardly established.  Ask anyone on here and they'll say Falkirk are a 2nd tier club.

You're at the wind-up.

Even if you don't think we were 'established' in the SPL, we weren't struggling at the foot of the second tier. Now we are. That's a decline by anyone's standards.

I'll give one specific :-

If you want to sign a player you need to have watched him in person in one competitive match minimum. Even if it's reserve football.

Any exceptions to this have to be agreed with the board with reasons why that player meets our requirements.

The scout was appointed in January. Hartley could have been viewing targets for this season in person from say February or March?

He might still have signed them after watching them and I agree with you that your can't have non football people saying "Sorry, that Owen Evans is gash" but I wouldn't have sanctioned signings only on Mitchell's say so

Reasonable point and I wouldn't argue with it. The only observation I'd make is that while we're all assuming he didn't watch the new players, we have no way of knowing for certain. It's a pity there were no fan forums in the last few weeks.

Yeah, and I'm probably giving him the benefit of the doubt there.

If I was him I'd be strongly denying I'd ever seen this lot play before they arrived!

That's probably the big advantage an academy gives you. It takes away that panicked "oh f**k we need 12 players to sign by the end of the fortnight".

Even if they players aren't great, you can use 5 or 6 to add to a squad and take your time a bit more.

It was exciting seeing so many players arrive when they did, but in hindsight did we jump too quickly for some because Hartley feared not having 16 players by the first LC game?

Most Falkirk fans are only a few zoomers  who are sad

I'd rather be one of the few zoomers who are sad, than a single sad individual who clearly spends his lonely spare time attempting to generate some attention from Falkirk fans.

Clearly a self obsessed, lonely individual with no family commitments, no social commitments, no job commitments!

Get a job, get a life, change your attitude!

Come along to the Falkirk Stadium.  Support the bairns, and we will change your life forever.  Become a bairn, and the passion will never leave!

COYB!

Again, the BoD employed Paul Hartley to manage the football department of the club, which involves scouting and signing players. It would then be ludicrous for them to say 'you can't sign this guy from Morecambe' or 'we've signed this striker from Hearts for you'.

The BoD assumed that Hartley and his team would have better ability to sign players than them. I can only imagine the uproar on here if it came out that they had stopped him from signing the players he wanted as part of some 'oversight procedure'.

That’s completely twisting what needed to be done. I could twist it back and say there would be uproar if the BoD said we have told Paul Hartley he can sign players sight unseen provided an agent has told him they fit the bill. By the way, there’s likely to be several of those because as a board, we don’t want to get involved in football matters”.

What, everybody happy? No dissent?

Are you really saying on this major project (any major project) this oversight malarky doesn’t apply, and shouldn’t be a key step in the whole thing? If so, how have we ended up with such a horrendous team? How is that possible?

My first post in years, feel compelled to get involved given the shambles we have become.

If McCall and McIntyre were/are our 2 main targets then that shouldn't change. Looks like McCall is def a no go now tho given recent statements in the media from their end so that leaves McIntyre.

Could see the point acting quick to get 1 of them before today to let them get their own signing(s) in but given the transfer window shutting tonight I no longer see any rush to appoint. As it is now the case that any new manager is stuck with what we have until Xmas what we need is a man manager who can specialise in getting the best out of what we have. In that case id leave young in caretaker charge and see if he can motivate without Hartleys negativity. During this time the BOD should see if they can persuade their 1st choices instead of falling further down their wish list. Who knows, maybe the caretaker can make an impact

The window closing really won't affect us much IMO. We'll still be able to sign free agents which is probably what we'd have done anyway(if there's any money left of course).

Possibly a loan signing

You cannot make any loan signings after today. There will be precious little left in the way of quality amongst any free transfers still kicking around. We're stuck with what we have, a pretty frightening prospect, buckle up.

Pure speculation - the budget for 2018/19 is gone. The money set aside to bring in another striker was used to pay off Hartley.  There is no money to pay off the backroom staff (and there seems to be a lot of them). As the team can't be changed substantively, the Board will be budgetting for declining crowds in the months ahead so it's likely there will be no extra money in January either.

So,  the applicants are being told they can't bring a staff with them, they can't bring players in until at least January and even then it will be one in, one out.

Not good.

I was saying we would maybe have been able to make a loan signing before the deadline if we had a manager
