The Falkirk FC Thread

He's playing up front for Falkirk against some truly terrible opposition in the third tier of Scottish football. He should therefore be absolutely capable of scoring goals, and the fact that he isn't is the reason fans simply don't rate him. I cannot understand this "either or" type argument that his cheerleaders are putting forward. He should be able to do both. Juan Alegria, in the first home game against QOS in August, was on the park for about 55 minutes, during which he scored one, created another and never gave their centre halves a single moment of respite. He was superb that day, that was the standard, and whilst by no means consistent, he could offer a bit of everything, physicality, ability to hold up the ball and genuine threat to the opposition. Oliver lacks the latter and is no where near the same level. Not even close. Whilst you'll get away with that against a rancid Clyde team, you won't against any sort of semi-competent opposition. Alegria to Oliver is such a downgrade.

Oliver had a decent enough game today, but we've now got a far tougher run of fixtures on the horizon and far better is needed. Hopefully that is addressed this week with the addition of a proper centre forward, preferably one who is now miles down the pecking order at Tynecastle.

Are you referring to Euan Henderson? He's not a centre forward.

Most amazing stat outside our own turnaround in this table is that after only 6 wins in their first 19 games Queens Park still got promoted. There's hope for everyone!

Believe QP have won more games this season in the championship than they did in league 1 last season.

That’s twice in a little over three weeks that we’ve put teams to the sword in the last ten minutes or so of the game.

That’s a great habit to have gotten into. Last season, we were throwing the towel in after half an hour.

Electing to play without a recognised CF and coming out of it 4 goals to the good is a pretty impressive bit of game management (regardless of the opposition).

Agreed. McGlynn has ‘rotated’ the striking position between the 4 forwards. Oliver can drop deep with the ball, and any one of Nesbitt, Morrison, or Kennedy will move upfront as the cover. At one point today when things were stretched, I even saw McGinn move to wide right. The management have got this lot well drilled. 👍🏻

In the last few years we would have folded as soon as the sending off of Donaldson, this season we are willing to fight.

Yes, it’s been a long while since I’ve seen us play that well even after Donaldson walked. If anything, we stayed on the ascendancy and got a couple of shots away. Changed days indeed.

Based on what? His hold up play is decent, he runs in behind, his touch is very good and brings others into play? Obviously he doesn’t score enough but when he helps bring Morrison, Nesbitt and Kennedy into play that shouldn’t be a worry.

Agree. Oliver does exactly what he’s been told to do and brings the other forwards in to play. He made himself a nuisance last week and today, certainly played his part. If even to tire their defenders until Burrell gets the last 30 mins. I’m also of the school that you don’t change a winning team, and Oliver is in the starting 11 on merit.

What is it with referees at TFS?…. FFS!

Given McGlynn was given a telling off by the ref he must’ve been raging at his performance. Wonder if he’ll think of appealing Donaldson’s red and have him available for the next few games which are all important.

He won’t be leaving Tynecastle this window IMO or he would already have.
My preference is someone from down south TBH. If he can be the quality of Rowe that will do for me.

How does the appeals procedure work in our division? Am I right in saying it costs the club money if the decision is upheld? Even watching that Coll Donaldson challenge back (and it does look worse on video than it did at the time) it’s still not a straight red, his feet aren’t high and his studs aren’t up, it wasn’t malicious just poorly timed and he arrived late hence catching the Clyde player. Loosing him for 3 games is a big blow but I could see an appeal being pointless as it probably doesn’t fall into the category of “clear and obvious error” that seems to used as a criteria.

It’s a very poor challenge at best considering some other challenges throughout the game, which should have been a yellow. I’m sure that the costs involved would deem this a non starter in the appeals process.

I don’t think there are any costs involved if the appeal is successful and even if unsuccessful it surely can’t be particularly expensive? It’s only if the decision is upheld the club is liable for the fees I think, maybe somebody could clarify?
