alonso
The SPFL will announce the suspension of all football below SPL for the mourning period of 17 days. All SPL fixtures to be allowed to continue as normal!

Doubt she’d have been arsed if Falkirk vs Alloa went ahead or not, to be honest. On a wider scale, you’re going to have people across the country who will have booked trains, hotels etc and workers who might rely on money from these shifts having them cancelled at short notice. Riddy and a half. It’s not just about respect but logistics as DF states. Lots of police, security, TV crew, equipment, OB trucks and other things are required to cover events for the funeral. All good points but broadcasters could apologise for reduced TV coverage (not like anything other than news is on) and avoid games being cancelled this weekend. Police aren't mandatory at football grounds and like any crime, would respond (eventually) if called in and around the stadiums. Instead fans will need to mourn QE in the pubs, restaurants, cinemas, hairdressers and sports centres of their towns and cities this weekend
Dawson Park Boy
As someone who has a great respect for our constitutional monarchy, I think this is a terrible decision. All that was required was a minutes silence at all games. Where does this end? Looks like we’re in for another Princess Di mournfest.

Aberdeen vs Rangers would definitely have required a police presence and with the Royals at Balmoral they would have been stretched. Clubs need to provide Stewards, many of whom are required elsewhere and as I said the TV facilities will be needed for coverage. Not to say it wouldn’t have all been possible but just saying there’s other factors at play. Edited September 9, 2022 by Guest

falkirkzombie
cancelling games is pointless, do they really think people will sit in their homes mourning the queen instead? do yer minutes silence and get on with it.

HopeStreetWalker
Utter nonsense postponing the fixture its fawning sycophantic nonsense. The Press, Broadcasters and the establishment have read this all wrong. 12 days of this is going piss off a lot of people. Want to mourn and show respect ? fine on you go. But don't impose it on the majority that are showing a mass respectful display of indifference and getting on with their day to day lives.
Dawson Park Boy
I have sent an email to the SPFL regarding this. I would suggest that others do the same.
NavyBlueArmy1876
A disgrace that tomorrow's game is off and probably will be next Saturday as well Edited September 9, 2022 by NavyBlueArmy1876
Guest
I would think next Saturday’s game will happen, I bloody hope it does anyway.
scottsdad
What exactly do the establishment expect people to do at the weekend? Sit at home in the dark with a tear running down their cheek and raising a glass to her? In what way does cancelling football matches help anybody? I mean, it isn't the case that all entertainment is off - you can still go to the cinema, still see most concerts, still go and see rugby league (in England), horse racing, cricket, golf, etc. Why has football once again been singled out as the bad guy who needs to be cancelled to "show respect"? We had enough of football being the scapegoat during Covid, and now this. Rotten, rotten decision.
Guest FFC1965
I'd say it was a mistake to cancel tomorrows matches. One of football's strengths is that it brings folk together. Taking that away is pointless and daft.
