Can't see us ever returning to grass unless we somehow manage to get very rich.

We were told last night that the major beef McGlynn and Smith have with plastic is that it takes players, especially older ones, longer to return from injury if they're having to train on plastic every day. Sheerin and Miller apparently made the very same comment. Artificial pitches per se don't cause injuries but can make the recovery time longer so the aim is to source a grass facility elsewhere that can be used for training. That will mean that players will only be playing on plastic once a fortnight. (Well it'll be nearer once a week due to the number of teams in L1 with artificial but you get what I mean). Add to that, the fact that the pitch won't be required for training, will free up more time for use by the public, which means more revenue so I don't see a return to grass any time soon.

On the David Lapsley thing, TBF to him he did say at one point that the money from BFL would be used to install grass 'with the permission of the members' however he did also say something along the lines of 'this is what will happen as long as I'm in charge'. Can't remember the exact specifics. Guy at the back soon put his gas at a peep anyway saying that only the BOD should be allowed to make such decisions.

I heard it was down to money.  We'd offered over £1k a week and Dunfermline have offered more.  His first choice was a new contract with Rovers so maybe staying in Fife played a part too.

Can't say I'm disappointed.  Signings have been solid if unspectacular so far.  Hopefully the next few will be more mouth watering.

Well if true I'm happy with that as he's definitely not worth over 1k a week. Henderson's a good signing especially getting him to drop down a league, Donaldson I'm more on the fence with but I like the fact the scum were raging he wasn't staying there especially considering they've just been relegated, he must've shown something. PJ's proved he's got what it takes to be a good keeper at this level and I reckon we'll most likely see another keeper in to challenge him for the starting jersey.

I'm sure someone said the players were due back for preseason next week so we'll hopefully see a few more signings before then

I wouldn't get too excited about signings. We were told last night that we'll be running with a smaller squad but there may be room for 4 or 5 more, unless we can move on some of the driftwood and I don't see teams forming a queue for McKay, Hetherington etc, so that's likely to prove difficult.

I would imagine that we're done in terms of keepers that being the case and I definitely think we'll be keeping Nesbitt, McGuffie and probably Ross which, TBH, I don't mind as I think a different (better?) manager may be able to get more out of them.

Some of the more recent posts have given me some reassurance that it wasn't just me who experienced a commercial shambles at the club.

At the start of the 2020/21 season I sponsored a players shirt for the first (and as it now turns out only) time.

It wasnt cheap, but as I was WFH not commuting and spending money socialising was a no no , I decided to take the plunge to help my club out.

Once the cash was paid I heard nothing from the club after the season end.  I know that the pandemic meant there wouldnt be the normal shindig with players & sponsors.  When I signed up I even asked the club to just post me the jersey once the season had finished, and specifically asked for them not to go to the trouble and expense of getting it framed as I just wanted a jersey to wear playing 5s.

Emailed the club twice after the season finished - no reply.   In the end I gave up.

What really surprised me was that they didn't even approach me to ask if I wanted to continue as a shirt sponsor for season 21/22, which Id probably have done if my arm had been twisted (and the situation with the 20/21 shirt resolved).

I wasnt expecting the red carpet treatment but the way it was handled (or not) was simply negligent.

i do hope that the new management gets a hold of basic stuff like this.

Have to admit I'm surprised by this. There was an issue in getting shirts signed during Covid and then framed by Fanatikool (think KK was at fault for this) and I didnt get mine until the start o fthe next season. However, Sharon at the club did keep me informed. Normally it's not an issue.

Mcglynn will be doing his best to offload the majority of the leftovers from last season so hopefully he manages to do so.

This is a rumour from our end on different socials,  apparently we offered him a 1 year extension on what he’s currently on the now but he wanted 2 years on over 1K a week but wasn’t guaranteed to be first choice as Murray has his own CHs planned to bring in… tbh I’m not really that fussed he’s away league 1 is his level now and if you ask any rovers fan not bothered he’s joined them

You'd hope Wilson, Sneddon and Holt jnr will get punted out on loan somewhere. Getting rid of the rest will be difficult.

I was recently given a fairly comprehensive insight into the working of the Commercial Dept under KK and as a very experienced (old) Sales Manager what I heard was disgraceful.

KK left before he was punted in my opinion, no systems in place or structure to his activities.

Utterly unprofessional and the new Commercial Manager has a job and a half on his hands just to clear up the mess he is inheriting.

Best of luck to the lad and the new assistants.

Hopefully the price of the hybrid pitches will become more reasonable over time as technology moves on.

Always wondered why the “eject seat” happened with him. All fits into place now. As said good luck to all the new guys on board. It’s going to be a very difficult year, let’s hope JM can build a decent first eleven as it’s increasingly like we’ve starting with one hand tied down.

Pity there is no Bleachfield !

Not sure that hybrid can be the “revolution” that some desire, especially in climates like Scotland. While “cheaper” than a synthetic surface, that doesn’t take into account a few issues. Converting a fully synthetic surface into a hybrid one is extremely expensive, as the hybrid materials/fibres are actually only about 5% of the surface.

You need a base for a high quality, natural pitch to support a hybrid pitch properly, and then add some particular maintenance requirements to avoid the surface becoming worse than a cheap plastic pitch over the season (the fibres tend to Matt down and become entangled and covered by the natural grass). Also, hybrid pitches are no better than a natural surface in near freezing/freezing temperatures, or on dealing with rain/snow.

You do gain between 50% and 125% more playing hours per year over a natural surface, but that’s unlikely to be a useful result at these levels…especially as that level of usage demands additional care (at additional cost).

Good grass > good astro > shite grass > shite astro

I agree. All things being equal financially I'd have grass every day.

I prefer watching football on grass and the eco warrior in me doesn't want to see more plastic in the world where a living thing should be. everytime I see someone with plastic grass in their garden my heart dies a little

The contracted players if they have sense will come back in good condition and impress. McGynn is nobodies mug and will have them told its a fresh start for them all. You never know some might just surprise us all after all it cant have been easy with last seasons management.

Should get their gardens taken off them imo.

Yeah totally agree. The circle that must be squared for us tho is that good grass is top of the tree. But you can't have good grass and make money from it.

Shite grass and shite astro are both terrible for football AND making money, which leaves good astro as the sensible solution for a club who can have afford to have good grass.
