The Falkirk FC Thread

I should be shocked that some of our fans think we are better than Airdrie and Montrose however I’m not. That’s actually part of the problem throughout the whole club.

We are in this position for a reason and the reason is we are not good enough.

Noone has said we're better than Montrose. They are have been far better than us up to this point. The gap yesterday though wasn't what I'd call insurmountable. With a couple more signings and a bit of gelling in the side there's no reason why we couldn't get a result against them at home in the next game. We aren't going to overtake them points wise but we may on the park at least close the gap.

I can't see Rennie break from 3/5 at the back for now, like Sheerin he has signed players to play the formation he wants, three centre halves signings tells me he will hang his reputation at Falkirk on it. A little movement on it I'd prefer as it can be an unforgiving formation at times. The key is the full backs, if they ain't on it it's a struggle creating.

It's a pity Dixon wasn't on the bench yesterday, that might have made all the difference.

We got lucky that day, it was 2 going on 5 for Montrose until Sheerin had a brain fart going two up

3 5 2 would be fine with a fully fit defence and another midfielder with a bit of steel. The problem at the moment is we have Jacobs and a bunch of lightweights to fill the 3 centre mid roles.  One of them playing 10 in front of Jacobs and a n other would get more out the system. Not playing mcguffie at lwb would help too.

The signing and where we got them shows our standing in the great scheme of things.

2 x Livingston fringe player loans. Pars reject. Hull City teenager, Returned loan.

Hopefully this puts an end to the money talks we are a big club nonsense. The quality we want will have better options.

Next few games will make or break Rennie & Millers future at FFC as making the playoffs will be their benchmark.

I’m at the stage of giving Rennie & Miller the gig next season even if we fail to get up this season. It’s clear Rennie is trying, but with half the squad not good enough he’s no fool, and knows at least six or seven need binned first week on May.

The model next season has to be so much better and I’m all for a mix of part time / full time players, the argument with fitness etc with pt time players is complete utter nonsense, I’ve watched players who look a hellava lot fitter than ours who train two or three nights/times a week.

It’s time for the club to take stock of what we’ve become and work with this type of model, I don’t think I could take another season of players (being polite)who looked like they couldn’t two Fcks about playing for the club.

Honking yesterday absolutely honking. How long does Rennie persist with 352? It just doesn’t seem to be working consistently enough just now. There also seems to be a lack of plan B just now.

Hopefully we will see a much needed centre mid to come in and play next to Jacobs. As evidently seen on Saturday we can only get away with one of Nesbitt / Telfer.

I don’t think Rennie will deviate from 3 at the back so I wouldn’t mind seeing the below when Dixon is back:-

Mutch

Watson Dixon ATS

Williamson Jacobs New McCann

Telfer

Dowds Kabia/Morrison

Another clear out at the end of the season and the same problems. There are players out there that can deliver the goods and get you up the leagues Cove Rangers proved it.

So get talking now to 6 - 7 players* out of contract at the end of the season and sell them a 2-3 year contract as the spine of a team with the prize of premier league football. Rest made up of players given a chance to come good.

*Goalkeeper + 2 center backs + 2 midfielders + 2 forwards with stability comes success.

Dowds was stinking yesterday, almost as bad as Telfer, but not quite.

If performances don't drastically improve we'd be mad to stick with Rennie. He still has it all to prove.

I'd say report card so far is B minus, maybe C plus

Fair assessment.

Think next week is the real make or break for any hope of this season. The home performances under Sheerin were unbelievably bad, almost every game. We were far better away than at home under him. Rennie must address that from next week - the time for talk is over

FFS he inherited the worst squad in living memory. Pep couldn’t get a tune out of that midfield 5 who started yesterday.

Aye I don’t disagree. Listening to Rennies interview, I can’t see us bringing in 3 players though which I feel we need. (GK, CM and ST). CM would make the biggest impact on our side, imo.

Centre mid is absolutely the priority, then another forward and whilst a better goalkeeper would be welcome not as vital as getting the midfield sorted.

Everyone is understandably impatient but the lack of understanding of how big a job Rennie has to do and how difficult it is to source new players and then assimilate them into a functioning team is staggering.
