The Falkirk FC Thread

Who'd have thought* a manager publicly questioning whether his players were actually capable of getting better would result in them downing tools in their next game?

*A competent manager, that's who.

I've no doubt there's a good few above and below Falkirk having a good wee snigger to themselves at your current woes. However, I'm damned sure the bottom five in the Championship (including my lot) are actually looking on in fascinated horror at the new challenges coming from the new kids on the block a la the likes of QP, Cove and Kelty. The prospect of the odd season down in L1 no longer attracts the "so what" Alan Partridge shrug of the shoulder it once did. The times they are indeed a changing.

Spent yesterday afternoon at a day out getting absolutely ripped by fans of various other clubs, will spend tomorrow at work getting absolutely ripped by fans of other clubs. That’s what this board have turned us Falkirk fans into folk that other fans can point and laugh at and it has to stop.

I don’t know who the new manager or management team should be but for me it has to involve someone with a bit of experience. We cannot go down the rookie manager route again as we have tried that with M&M and Sheerin and it hasn’t worked. Holt definitely needs to go and whether we need to get another DoF in is up for debate but somewhere in our structure there has to be someone along the lines of a Smith, Totten, Jefferies etc an old head who knows the score.

Mind when all applicants had to send an email to Gary Holt to apply?

Mind when the papers said we asked Neil McCann if he was interested then we put out a statement to say they offered noone to debunk that claim(even though it didn’t say he was offered the job)?

Mind when Deans tried to get permission to speak to Brian Rice and got knocked back?

Mind when we lauded our great interview process and how we had applicants from all around the world?

Mind how we then appointed Paul Sheerin whom Inverness had knocked back?

Still can’t believe it took some so long to see this board for what they are. Actually forgot how many blunders they’ve made in the past year or two.

It will be good riddance to them on Monday although disappointed to see a couple of them who were part of that  reign have remained.

Just viewed yesterdays highlights on the QP website, my thoughts -

  1. 3rd and 6th goals were complete car crashes.
  2. 5th goal the corner kick was about 1 metre away from the spot.
  3. Dave Mac (Mr Falkirk ) being the stadium announcer is a complete embarrassment for the club.
  4. Times up for Sheerin - nice guy that is more suited to reserve football.

Other notes - has the club given up on the club website - we do not seem to post match reports anymore, yet we have about million backroom staff members.

Praying this turns around.

More dithering from the BOD. Regardless of changes to come this week the unanimous decision should be to have dispensed with Sheerin already.

Incredible to think any current or future member would be in disagreement that his times up.

All hope is lost under Sheerin - reflected on the pitch and soon to be in the stands if he's allowed to continue.

A paltry attendance by the fans for the Cove game should be used to signal that enough is enough should he remain in place preparing the team this week.

Was surprised Sheerin wasn’t gone after the Airdrie game but we had the “oh Morrison is back soon” thrown out to us and since then we’ve won 2? League games, Clyde and Dumbarton away and lost to Montrose, Queen’s Park and throw a lead away against Alloa.

Statement out soon I’d imagine but the new board punting holt would be a great start.

Another manager and his background staff binned and the resulting clear out of players. Not only the financial implications of all the hiring and firing but the damage it does to the credibility of the club as a reliable and trustworthy employer. The more often the merry go round the less chance the club has in attracting the caliber of applicant required to stop further decline.

Brian Rice being appointed would sum Falkirk up.

Bringing in someone in no way suited for their situation simply because he's been at a higher level before.

Stop further decline? I asked if this was rock bottom after the 5-0 Partick defeat, now we've just been pumped 6-0 by Queens Park. No further decline is possible surely but we are risking that happening by keeping Sheerin in post.

We can't do nothing

Unfortunately there’s no obvious solution to how we fix this problem.

Some people point to the fact that Sheerin is inexperienced as being the problem but we have just been pumped off a team with an inexperienced head coach.

Every name mentioned doesn’t set the world alight but ultimately we are languishing in the middle of league one with a f**king horrendous team, what sane person willingly takes the gig.

I feel quite sorry for Gary Holt. After a career spent winning the Scottish Cup and playing at the top level of Scottish and English football to suddenly find yourself trying to drag a wee club like Falkirk up to some sort of professional standard must be tough, especially with an unloving group of supporters who won’t give you a chance.
