This was a repressed memory I didn't need to know I had.

Funnily enough that brought it all back to me as well, still done better than dennon lewis and in fact prob most of the past 3 seasons teams, think thats probably where the past 3 seasons got their inspiration from.

Do you think McGuffie and Nesbitt will be decent signings for League One? Can't imagine they were starting many games for yourselves last year if they were C team players but there is a gulf between the two leagues.

Nesbitt played over 30 games and McGuffie over 20 games in all competitions for Morton last season.

'Decent' yes but if you're planning to actually get out of the league then a two year deal for McGuffie in particular makes little sense.

To be fair you'd have said the same about Telfer and he was a stand out for us last season in a very poor squad albeit. At 23 he still has time to find some consistency also may just be a case of finding the right team or system.

The problem is players arent interested in dropping a league and signing one year deals. If there's a choice of a one year deal in the champ or a one year deal in league one then we ain't winning. We won't be going mad on the wages front either so it's longer deals.  We've got excellent previous experience in punting guys with a year to go on their contracts anyway if necessary.

Doubt we're starting Morrison, Nesbitt and Mcguffie together so maybe he's been signed as backup?

Good to have options especially in wide positions as you very rarely get a consistent winger especially at this level. 4 would be preferable and Mcguffie's left sided so seems like a good option.

Agreed, big issue last year was having nothing on the bench in any position!

There's an argument that any division that makes Robbie Muirhead look like Zlatan over the play-offs will make any player stand out, but if simply shipping in Championship dross and relying on the level to help them was effective then you wouldn't be a midtable League One team now (see McLean, R. and all your other jobber signings).

Whilst the signings so far have been ok, there's not one that stands out, hoping that is still to come...

Yeah, nobody so far that's a class above what we've had for the last 2 years and not been able to get out of this league.

I was just thinking the same. All of the signings are better than those who left but aren't anything to shout about. We are building a decent enough side but still lack quality up front and a box-to-box dynamic centre mid. BPM's boy Williamson or Cammy Ballantyne coupled with McManus would be ideal.

If looking at like for like replacements. Williamson > Mercer. McKay > Durnan. Nestbitt > Connolly. Hetherington > 53 year old Gomis. McGuffie > Leitch. Upgrading Kelly, Alston, Francis and Sammon shouldn't be particularly hard.

Having more than one option out wide cannot be a bad thing. Once Morrison was marked out of a game we were done for.
