Can't believe folk that moan about a DoF role saying its not needing and then want to employ someone for PR .

I couldnt really care if they announced his departure with sign writing in the sky as long as he is gone how he has managed to carve a career out in football i will never know.  His woeful defending and in some cases sending off(s) is part of the reason we are still in this league.

This has nothing to do with his performances, which you rightly say were woeful. ....but the club made a PR mess by singling him out.

The point is that this is not the first time we have made a PR boob. In fact, it has been going on for a good number of seasons now.

Just a few examples. Think about the badge copyright fiasco, calling a fan a racist, the ongoing saga with the Crunchie Initiative, which was an open goal for the club in PR terms but they have decided to boot the ball over the bar at the Hope St. end onto a train that is bound for Carlisle.

We have PR expert on the Board who should be aware of the potential fall out of this and other recent issues.

Although we all want to see a winning team on the pitch, which is a priority, the admin and PR side is integral to the success of the club.  We are reliant on finances from sponsors, goodwill from other benefactors and the way the club appears to be run for potential incoming players. PR issues do not help.

Are you being serious? It’s obvious the club must have spoken to him about staying, hence why he wasn’t on the original list, but that has broken down. The club is would have released that statement as fans will no doubt start hearing that he is in discussions/signing for another club. I bet if the club waited and we found out he was going elsewhere, there would be an uproar that the club never told us

In the ever growing list of PR disasters that the club have had, a single player and not a very good one at that being posted on the website. The headline of Mark Durnan leaves the club is nowhere near even close to a PR disaster, its hardly up there with the closure of the academy, the threat of legal action against a supporters group and branding the fanbase rascists, what did you want them to do wait till the others have failed to agree terms or were you wanting to throw a surprise farewell party for him on his departure and have a big banner on the front of TFS saying good luck and sorry your leaving?

Get the new manager sorted then let him come in and decide which players he wants to keep for next season and which ones he doesn't. Also once you've got the new manager in he should have the final say on which player comes in.

Perfect scenario, new manager comes in, goes to Holt and says I need a centre midfielder. Holt goes out and gives the manager the options he has sourced and the manager makes the final decision on which player he wants in. It's not rocket science but when a manager has to rely on his squad in order to be successful in their job he should have a say on who's in that squad.

Agree with you and I think that’s what will happen.

Are folk actually moaning at the club telling the fans that a player is leaving at the end of his contract?  I know the club is a mess but jeezo there is no need to moan about every wee thing!

Imagine a tabloid saying he is leaving and the club never told us 🤦‍♂️

Ok, tell me exactly what the club should have done regarding Durnan?

Anyway... the new manager shortlist to be handed to the board tomorrow? With interviews to take place is it unrealistic to expect a new manager in place in 2 weeks time?

As I understand it people have already had interviews so I'd imagine most of the shortlist have already been interviewed. Be interesting to hear what that shortlist is though. Grant and Taylor seem the most commonly mentioned.

Applicants have until tomorrow to contact club. Shortlist will be drawn up once deadline is passed.

What I mean is people have already been interviewed for the role so they may already have a decent idea of who's going to be on the shortlist. But yes new applicants still have until tomorrow to throw their hat into the ring.

I really hope they don't give it to someone like Martin Canning, just because he's been at Hamilton, working on a shoestring, was instrumental in bringing through young players, his brand of football was honking. Our first signing would be Mikel Antoine Curier

A valid concern. That we end up, not with the best candidate, but someone willing and malleable enough to fit in with Holt and whatever his way of working is. I've yet to hear any rationale as to what exactly he has done in his career to be handed this level of influence, basically a carte blanche to decide who stays or goes. He could choose to re-sign, for example, Connolly, Telfer and Hall. Whoever is appointed then decides, after a few days of pre-season training, maybe even sooner, that he doesn't fancy any of them. Don't fit his preferred system. Doesn't like their attitude. Whatever. Resulting in yet more dead money on the books.

The majority of the premium dross has been released. None of them will be remotely missed, or can any complaints. But absolutely no further signing or re-signing decisions should be getting made until an appointment is confirmed, and whoever that is has been given the final say. The argument that "until then, it's up to Holt" is nonsense. It should not be his call.

Absolutely.

The DOF should identify a number of potential signings with the head coach having the final say who is brought in - as he lives and dies on results. This is how is works at most sensible clubs that employ a DOF  but I can see us stuffing it up again.

Another part of the theoretical advantage of a DoF is that the coach can be relatively without connections in Scottish football. That might be a clue that Rawlins is more involved than it might appear. It also opens an opportunity to recruit an “up and coming” coach versus the usual retread. The common response is “we can’t afford to take a flyer on an unknown”, but the BoD has (thus far) not shown any concern about having made a bollocks of the last few hires. With Falkirk’s budget and a DoF onboard, it seems unlikely anyone could threaten relegation at FFC without being unceremoniously punted for being a complete idiot before destroying the season, and nearly anyone else could then manage a mid-table finish.

I don’t know a single person who wanted him to stay, he’s away so move on.

Clearly one did or he would have been on the initial list
