Two former player returning epic fails that stick out to me are George Miller (as manager) and Rory Loy.  Doubt if we will see anything like that.  Blair must be a better player now than when he left us.  If he's not there is something drastically wrong somewhere.  Even if he hasn't learned or progressed at all in the past four years, getting him back as he was is a great move for us.  Gow is more of an unknown quantity in his new role.  Overall I think there is cause for genuine optimism - provided the season goes ahead as planned and finishes.

I’d say the worst former player / manager returning was John Prentice coming back to replace Willie Cunningham. My father and several of his mates didn’t go to matches during Prentice second spell.

Worst part of that move was that we rejected Alex Ferguson when he applied for the job. Ferguson, as player coach, had a large part in the success of the final year of Willie Cunningham’s tenure, as Willie was not a well man due to illness.

When I say ‘we’, I of course mean the incumbent Board of Directors.....

It is one of the great what if's. Great young players just establishing themselves and the potential of a golden generation for Ferguson to work with.

Beckett , Kennedy (s) , Fowler , Kennedy (j) , Wheatley , McCabe , McLeod , Harley , Somner. Fergie had Andy Gray lined up to sign but the board knocked him back and he went to Dundee United.

Falkirk were ahead of Jim McLean's Dundee United at that time and we blew it - oh my how we blew it. Beckett and Young went on to star in Fergusons St Mirren side.

Pedro seemed to get poorer every time we re-signed him too.

Messi or Ronaldo would have struggled in a Pressley team.

I suspect / hope we have a deal with Gow whereby he gets a cut of sell on fees in return for doing the legwork in identifying and bringing in younger guys we can sell on. It's more likely it will work if he has some financial interest but I don't see them restarting the academy in the short term. I hope it works and he is as eloquent and if he's as effective a business man as he was a player. It is a tough gig but more enterprising than having Lex anywhere near player recruitment and the next best alternative to having our own conveyor belt of talent..I would only let him help out the groundsman or sweep the terraces but unfortunately we don't have any ( partly because of him and the people he grooves to) so he would be better getting to France and take those he works for with him

Why would Gow be on a deal with a cut of future fees ?

P.s Mark Campbell didn't buy us

Nothing to be not sure about, no matchday income since 7th March, sponsorship/advertising deals will be much lower, I am guessing we were one of the few clubs topping up the furlough, season ticket sales will take a massive hit, signed players may have been enticed with signing on fees as well as we will now be paying players and I can see the fans getting back into grounds with a percentage of capacity in the early stages which will cost clubs more to police with less income.

The plus side is league prize money and the money the Hearts bloke investor gave to all the clubs which with the prize money probably wouldnt cover the loss of our remaining 4 home games income from last season.

I am looking forward to the football starting again but a large part of me wonders how poor the standard will be this season especially in a closed door enviroment. I enjoyed the European games recently but a lot of the behind closed door games have been piss poor, I have fell asleep recently watching the Scottish effort so far on more than one occasion.

I think its safe to say the game without fans is nothing, they may not need fans for income in some of the cash rich leagues but the game needs them at all levels.

Agree, the game is horrible without fans. Even some fans would make a difference.

I also thought the Scottish games seemed particularly bad , I couldn't watch them in the end and that's the top league. Things are different of course if you have skin in the game but still I expected the games to be a lot more interesting.

Strange considering during normal times when you watch TV games at Livingstone, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone (not against OF) it seemed like there was no one there anyway but those matches were far better than what we have now.

I think I'd have to go with Loy as unlike others who didn't do as well 2nd time around, a good few of them did shine a little just not as bright.

The likes of Crunchie, Yogi, Kevin James, Lee Miller, Colin MacDonald, Pedro Moutinho, Scott McKenzie, John Henry, Peter Heatherston, Crawford Baptie,  Mark Millar and Davie Nicholls all performed as well 2nd or 3rd time around and some better.

Kenny Deuchar, Marc Twaddle and Vitor Lima  shouldn't have signed again but they were freed first time for a reason.

Would not disrespect former players contributions to the club by naming names when they returned to play for the club

It was so sad that George Miller Captain of that great Willie Cunningham's team. Should be remembered as manager rather than the best captain of a Bairns team I have seen.

Same with Yogi

An absolute colossal at the back for us and total hero as a player, but remembered not fondly by many as a manager.

I've always been dead against former players coming back as managers because it usually ends badly.  I cringe when people used to shout for Latapy or Stainrod for manager.

If it's Lex you're on about he'd most likely go to Tenerife where his "luxury apartment" sweatbox is.

In my opinion he's desperate for the cash for his shares so he can bugger off to join his mates at Hamilton Accies.

No disrespect intended.  The two men would have been the first to recognise their failure second time around.  Nothing wrong with observing that.  We all fail many times in life.  When you fail on a public platform there is no hiding or denying it.

No time did I think you post was. You raised a pertinent point.

Heard he’s investing in a coffee shop chain in New York.

Mostly players returning doesn't work with the possible exemption of Crunchie, but then he is one of us. Just got to give Gowser a chance and hope for the best, if as has been rumoured he is buying out LM's shares for me that has to be a positive.

Big Craw was excellent in his 2nd spell as a player with us.

However outside Craw, Crunchie and to a degree Houstie you are spot on mate.

It was not good ! As a youngster I was thrilled when the Cup Winning captain came having never seen him play, I had been told about Captain Courageous and when he left the first time it for me and a betrayal. When he returned I could not believe it and was against him from the start even when his team got promoted with a high win ratio.

Look at the legacy ! Who talks about him lifting the cup , the penalty , the leadership on the park ? nobody.
