Interview with Lewis Moore on Scotland Today, had a lot of personal issues going on & we thought he was a defender!

Said the loan was a waste of time & he was close to chucking it. Now, 2 games later, wi Hearts, he's in the U-21 squad!

Think it says more of the lack of depth there, but good luck to the lad.

Skipping the current talk, just had a text from family member who has just been told to prepare for a complete shutdown of all universities and schools. I would imagine that all public events/gatherings  will be postponed/cancelled shortly thereafter. Assuming that football gatherings will be included which would result in closed door games ( maybe cancellations) Looking at the current lockdown in Italy, I’m assuming similar situation. I know this is being covered in another topic, where would we stand ?

I asked the question earlier on today when I was at the club.

There's an SFA / SPL body of some sort who're sending out daily briefings to all the clubs based on information they get from the World Health Organisation, amongst others.

I was the read the update that was issued this morning and there was no hint of any plans of the sort you're referring to.

Interestingly, there's a quote on the BBC news website form Englands' Deputy Chief Medical Officer:

  • Dr Harries said cancelling big outdoor events like football matches would not necessarily be a decision supported by science.
  • "The virus will not survive very long outside," she said. "Many outdoor events, particularly, are relatively safe."

Yes I read that, and immediately read the underlying political overtones of such a ludicrous statement.....

This, alongside advice such as to remain at least 1 metre apart and closing of major provinces (now countries), as well as the need for self isolation? It’s a disgraceful statement of Trump proportions...

I dont think anyone knows what is actually going on, there was an interview yesterday with the former head of the NHS (in England and Wales granted) but he was saying the government is basically doing nothing and the time it does take its toll it will be too little too late.  In other words once again we are ill prepared and trapped looking at the headlights as the truck heads towards us.

What’s really going on is that the markets and the economy are being given precedence over people’s lives...

I’ll go with what Bantabairn said.

This is from the Scottish Governments Coronavirus action plan and is part of the latter stages of the delay phase (which we are in), before we go into mitigate phase:

“4.45 Action that would be considered could include population distancing strategies (such as school closures, encouraging greater home working, reducing the number of large scale gatherings) to slow the spread of the disease throughout the population, whilst ensuring the country’s ability to continue to run as normally as possible. The UK governments' education departments' planning assumptions include the possibility of having to close educational settings in order to reduce the spread of infection.”

My take is that it’s a bit of a lottery at present, as said the government is relying on the UKs top specialists to advise on a live changing situation.
Man City announce postponement of game tonight, as known contact with carrier with players. Liverpool’s game with Athletico goes on with three thousand Spanish fans, visiting UK, after Spain announces highest increase in the virus. UK still not checking anyone at airports. Appreciate that the Gov trying not to panic the public, and that that are following guidelines, but some decisions in my opinion really confusing and worrying. Has the pleasure of attending a H&S meeting where the speaker was conveying how important with personal hygiene ie washing hands, keeping a tissue if coughing or sneezing, and not touching your mouth, counted around a dozen times he licked his finger to turn over his presentation. Anyway prepare for the unexpected.

Pretty sure its "expect the unexpected"

Falkirk fans have experienced the unexpected for years. To such a degree its getting past the expecting stage and just taken as the norm.

Supporting this club is a mystery tour of emotions, expectations and madness wondering what absurdities are going to be afflicted on us today.

All tolerated for these brief moments that makes it all worth while.

Note it says large scale gatherings, but doesn't specify whether it is referring to indoor or outdoor.

At least a meter apart? In all seriousness, Scottish football below the top tier cannot financially survive close door games without cash payments to the clubs matching average gates, and the clubs distributing those funds to any workers who weren’t compensated for those closed games...and that’s at the least. Given an eight week cycle, postponement of the end of the season for three months is the most practical (didn’t say it’s even reasonable or practical, but the most of a series of crappy choices), but leaves financial impacts all over anyway.

The good news is a marginally somewhat robust social safety net is still present in the U.K., while in the U.S., this is likely to get particularly ugly due to the dismantling of the same safety net.

I believe the UK government know the virus explosion is coming but don't want to go to early with lockdown - to protect businesses and people's jobs.

What amazes me is there are no bans on people coming in from deeply affected countries such as Italy and Spain - I mean surely that would make a difference.

It seems a ban on people attending large outdoor events is coming but will they ban people travelling on the tube every day in London where you are literally in someone's face the whole journey?

To complete the season I think the best option is to play out all games behind closed doors even if it's into June /July and completely cancel Euro 2020.

He was murder.  Even for hearts he just runs about doing very little.  God knows how he gets in the u21s. Feel sorry for Billy Gilmour having jobbers like Moore alongside him.
