This times ten.

Every time we have a managerial issue, the usual suspects get a mention (McCall/Jeffries/Hughes) or we get landed with familiar products of the Scottish system. What we need is a young talent, looking to forge a reputation in the game. Someone with fresh ideas rather than the same old tedium.

The problem is, to make this work we would need people upstairs with a bit of football savvy...

Most successful manager in our recent history. Would back him to build a side that would absolutely skoosh the seaside league too.
He's a shocking man manager and I'd bet a lot of players wouldn't want to play for him, which would make it hard to attract decent players

Always wondered why fans always demand a "young up and coming manager", the best manager in St Johnstones history was hired at the age of 49, just a month or so away from 50.

In this instance, because I'm feeling let down by familiar faces.

Couldn't care less but good for you.

There is no formula to employing a successful manager. The art of employing a manager like players can be the luck of a roll of a dice and unfortunately we haven't been rolling high numbers in both the manager and player departments.

I dont think someone with a bit football savvy upstairs helps all too much, would be a benefit no doubt but Alex Smith was around for years and the same carnage has been ongoing when he was here and when he was gone, in fact he gave the board the green light re Hartley

Fair points but someone upstairs should at least have the interviewing skills to suss out whether a candidate is enthusiastic and motivated. Hartley's attitude (boasting about us pursuing him) should've been noticed. McKinnon had 4 months to identify January signings, limited options aside that's far more time than most managers are afforded.

After a defeat tomorrow and next Saturday, I can already hear the first question of interview “ Well Ray, we took it to the last day, but just fell short “.  Guaranteed it won’t be “ If you had attacked a bit more in recent weeks you might have taken more than 4 points from a possible 18 or maybe 6 from 24”

Partick H Draw - Just about acceptable, Thistle we’re improving, but we didn’t really have a go.

Inverness A Draw -  Acceptable

Q of S A Draw - Unacceptable, especially given the ending.

Alloa H Loss - Unacceptable but still should have won given chances missed.

Dunfermline A Win - Acceptable if fortuitous.

Morton H Loss - Unacceptable of the highest order.

Dundee Utd A - ?

Ross Co H - ?

DKD if fit owes us one huge performance today, as apart from him being ineligible twice against Ross Co his sending offs and suspensions would defiantly have made some difference to the outcomes against Q of S , Alloa and Morton, possibly 5 points worth ?

Coyb, expect the unexpected.

Will people stop saying “we all wanted Hartley”. No we didn’t, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt. He failed miserably in the long run.

He was given backing, and the benefit of the doubt. He had done well at Alloa (including giving us the occasional pasting), it had gone wrong at Dundee, but we hoped he was the type of guy to learn from his mistakes, and was keen to re-establish his reputation as a manager on the up.

Unfortunately, he was too arrogant to even accept that he had ever made any mistakes, and wasn’t prepared to put in the hours and miles to put together a proper football team. The outcome was inevitable,  but I am sure in his head, he wasn’t to blame for any of it.
