Bairn4Life confirmed last night that Ian McShane from St Mirren was the 1st player to be signed using the fans monthly subs. It was suggested that more publicity on that could have been made to help them increase membership.

What was said about transferring the B4L money in to shares?

As I understood it, the B4L cash wasn’t being converted to shares. It was purely opex cash, and as I understand it, was cause for a significant number to hesitate from subscribing.

That's really poor that there was no mention of that at all from the club.

I feel that was deliberate.

I had heard differently but I wonder how many people will now decide one or the other, myself included. I don't mind offering a bit extra cash on top of the season ticket, top and the odd pie and Bovril but multiple direct debits going to different things isn't something I am really interested in.

I think that’s the view of many. B4L and BtB both have the same aim, but one has a more hard edged influence agenda than the other. Doubtless there will be a desire to either form a marriage between the two, or failing that then some attempt for each to not adversely affect the other, but over time, that will prove a difficult act to pull off.

As things stand at the moment, BfL is the only scheme in town.

If the proposed share purchase scheme gets off the ground, then I have no doubt that a coming together will happen.

One little point to make is that BfL operates a S/O system, not a direct debit mechanism.

There is quite a difference as using  a S/O puts complete control in the hands of the donor whereas a d/d gives much more power to the donee.

No, B4L doesn’t get any shares in return for monies donated. That’s how I understand it, and I am sure the likes of BPM could clarify for certain. As mentioned above, it is the only show in town if and until the BtB scheme cranks into life.

From what was said last night, B4L going forward (and may include the money donated so far) will be converted to shares. I know that issue held back a few of our group from contributing last year.

Why would they deliberately fail to publicise something that benefits them?

I don't know either way, but if I were guessing I'd put it down to oversight.

The person who's most switched on in terms of publicity - KK - was on a fortnights holiday at the start of the year. The person who does the input for the website / social media also doubles up as football admin and he was running about like a daftie at the time; seven new players came in during the space of two days.

I'm guessing (again) but I suspect McShane may have been "allocated" to BFL after the event. Particularly as he was third in the door and his eighteen month contract wouldn't be covered by the 16K donation, unless we're paying him an average of £222 per week.

With all the focus being on changing an entire team I suspect the publicity angle for BFL was simply forgotten about rather than deliberately omitted.  We'll know for sure when the next one's done in the summer.

Bairns Business were acknowledged when we signed Rory Loy so there should be no reasons for B4L not to get the same level of publicity, at least in a normal transfer window when staff have a bit more time to plan things.

Because to do so would be portraying the support in a positive light, absolutely the last thing on earth this regime would wish to do.

It's really not so difficult to imagine.

Agreed. We (of those I’ve spoken to) all said it would have been great to see the signing announced as the B4L signing with the shirt at the Brockville gate etc. at that time of the signing.

Lost opportunity until next time for both parties, although they did say last night that at an upcoming club event there would be a photo completed for such an occasion. Would have had more of an impact for both parties at the time though I think.

Whilst it’s brilliant that the money contributed to what appears to be such a good signing, personally think him being announced as a B4L signing would have been embarrassing. Just my opinion though.

Don’t see the issue tbh. Fan part-funded would have been a positive story all round. No different to the Rory Loy signing where the Bairns Business Club Paid a part of his deal.

The fans involved put in 16k probably about 10% of the cost to sort the mess created. Well done to them. It helped McKinnon churn the squad. Not sure it really matter who the player was TBH.
