The Falkirk FC Thread

Recommended Posts

I looked at the league yesterday, hadn't been paying much attention to it as I knew what position we were in.

Was really surprised the Fifers are only 3 points above us as I would have sworn they had won a couple of games.

First day for Ray today, clean slate for the players but by f**k the finger needs to come out big time and they need to get us up that table pronto !!

Think his 1st day (with the players) is tomorrow. Press conference also tomorrow I heard on Saturday.

Can’t think of any Falkirk manager walking into a more screwed up situation.

McKinnon is certainly going to have to have a cool head to sift through what he has inherited. As mentioned earlier, I just hope he doesn’t have to spend weeks and weeks trying out stuff that’s already failed spectacularly.

Could well be that his specialist subject is sorting out basket cases and making them viable again. Good luck to him, as he takes on Hartley’s mess........probably the biggest challenge of his managerial career to date.

McKinnon will have done an incredible job if he can somehow get us to 8th by the end of the season. Even 9th would be an achievement with this group of 'players' as I'm struggling to think of two teams which will finish below us.

Aww wind yer neck in. We’re four games in FFS  How the f**k would 8th or 9th be an achievement? Once again you dramatise everything.

That's my issue. Finding two teams to finish below us.

Even if we dangerously assume Alloa are one of them, which is far from certain, who do you pick from the other 8? An Ayr implosion? Just don't see it

I think we'll finish 9th at best.

All I want from McKinnon is to inject some organisation into things. He has two weeks and one meaningless game before he takes on league business. In that time I would like him to have pretty much nailed down maybe 6 or 7 of his preferred 11, told them if its a back 4 or what the system is. Then just chip away at the basics. Defence drilled into holding their line, how high up the park they go, who presses, who hangs back etc etc.

Despite the eye bleeding hyperbole about players never having played football, they will improve immensely with drilling and organisation, thats first on the agenda. Know your role in the team, know your expectations in terms of position and play, and stick to it.

I hadnt looked at the table much either but my head questioned how certain teams were at the top having had a defeat as Id actually thought that someone had 100% record in wins, that was at 0-0 at Dingwall and I noticed if we couldve somehow sneaked a 1-0 we wouldve went above the pars !

I know its only 4 games but there is only 1 team (Inverness) who are undefeated and we are the only consistent team with 4 defeats

I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure where our goals and points come from pre January.

McKinnon is obviously the Joker we have. He might come in and have an immediate impact even with this squad. Let's hope so. In 10 games time it might look stupid to have been worried about 10th. Or...

I agree. It might only be four games into the season but with the complete dross McKinnon has been left with we're basically looking at righting off promotion and the playoffs unless he can work some real magic. Sounds ludicrous this early as it should be all to play for still but Saturday emphasised the fact that its not just the standard of manager but the standard of player that was the issue.  That plus the fact that even Alloa look a decent outfit means its going to be a real struggle to keep us out of the relegation spots come January never mind playoffs.

I think they come from organisation and developing a solid base. Haber is more than capable of goals in this league, and rather than simply claiming (like some) "HEEZ NO EVEN A FITBAW PLAYER" after watching play a couple of games for a team in complete fucking disarray, I am taking Dundee fans word for that.

Dennon Lewis I believe is capable of goals too. I think he may need them plated up to some extent but I think he might prove to a decent instinctual type finisher.  Turner, well lets be generous and say the jury is out, and Rudden is an as yet unknown quantity for us. All of those guys are feeding off scraps though because a lack of discipline and organisation in defence is impacting and causing the same in midfield, destroying the balance of the team. Roles and responsibilities are not understood which makes it entirely too difficult to organise an effective attack

Midfield might well prove to be the issue, but agian, Irving and Greenwood look decent players, McKee is available and we know what he is about, Sammut hopefully is about to show why we signed him. So once again, the patter about a team full of guys who don't know how to play football doesn't really stack up. There are guys there who need to be working off a solid base behind them, and a plan of their own to follow. That's what McKinnon needs to be doing. We haven't put together a group of individuals who are all somehow unable to score goals, Hartley turned them into a team that was unable to organise itself into any form of cohesive attacking force.

Stainrod played multiple years in the top flight scoring double figures goals in a few seasons. He Played in Europe and would've gone to Barcelona if it hadnt been for Venables being sacked there before he could sign him. Chris Waddle played in a champions league final and world cup semi final.  Latapy won back to back championships with Porto and played in the champions league with them too.  Its all conjecture but I certainly wouldn't say he was the best player of the past 30 years  by some distance.

To be Monday c**t

Venables was at Barcelona when the foriegner rule was in, thats the reason he stated he didnt bring Stainrod and I think Terry Fenwick was mentioned in same scenario

God wouldve wanted that cleared up I think !!!

I don't think there is much on the list (just a quick glance) but maybe 1 or 2 could do a job for us.

But yes it's grim that it's came to that

Think we're defo in two camps as fans .

1 who thinks this squad is a collection of unrecoverable shite which no matter the manager will be bottom 2 material

and 1 which thinks there's enough there for the right gaffer to drag up to mid table in the Championship

Id suggest the 2nd camp is that they will judge after a manager has put his stamp on formation, players tactics and maybe a free transfer in, I dont think anyone is saying the signings are all amazing but hopefully a few more step up with a manager who doesnt drain the life out of players by one way or another

The shit might still stick under McKinnon but we wont know till he has been given a chance to instill what he wants to the players.

We see it every season in the uk where a manager comes in at a team rooted to the bottom or in a relegation place and he can turn them into a useful outfit who go on a run that seemed impossible, Neil Warnock the go to guy for these turnarounds. I am sure there are opposite scenarios where it gets worse tho....but sssshhhhhh about them
