The insurance thrown in deals are normally21+. Best advice buy a corsa/ Clio 1litre engine, shop about for quotes don't use compare websites their shite. Elephant are ok, there are some providers online who specialise in young drivers, I'd recommend doing pass plus!

Aye, comparison sites are horrendous. Have a look on moneysupermarket or similar sites for offers that certain websites have, I had a look and got 10% off from aviva when you registered online.

wee bit of topic here.the laddie passed his test two weeks ago (first time) anybody advise. would it be cheaper to insure a car for him on an independant insurance of his own or through mine and his mothers combined insurances.the way its looking doing checks he would have been better sticking to his 125 motorbike.seems a bit unfair to young drivers imo.  any help welcome.insurance companies for young drivers etc.

Providing you have a good driving record, it would work out a lot cheaper for you to insure yourself on his car and just add him as a named driver and get him told no to be a wee dick and drive properly. I was getting quotes of upwards of 2k on a 1.2l 2005 Corsa which was more than the car was worth. With my dad as the main driver and myself as a named driver the co-op gave me a quote of £700 or so.

If you (or your son) has the funds to get insured by himself then by all means do that. However, in the short term anyway, making him a named driver will save a lot.

Oh and I think it might be illegal to do that but if your son doesn't drive like a w**k then you shouldn't have problems.....

That's.called fronting and I think they were trying to clamp down on it at one point as it's not properly insured or some crap.

Thought I'd bump this thread.

Anyone recommend a driving instructor by Queens Park? Starting to learn again once I get my theory test out of the way.

Also, says a 7 week wait for practical test! Scary! Anyone know the latest time I cam sit that? Not including weekends.

Went out for my first lesson since I did 10 when I was 18 tonight.

Did very well apprantently and I'm on the equivalent of 5 hours already.

Driving instructor also mentioned there is a test centre in Govan he uses, and the waiting list can be as short as 2 weeks instead of 7 like everywhere else. Anyone taken their test here before?
