Needing to get a new laptop, the bairn decided to pour a glass of juice over mine today and its knackered. Is this a good price for the spec etc?

Its ok. ebuyer have a very similarly specced one for £50 less in their black friday sales

depending on what you use it for you could probably go for this which is another £50 cheaper. For basic use you're not going to notice much difference between an i3 and an i5

Thanks, it's mainly used for browsing and the occasional game of football manager so I don't need anything too fancy.

If you want to play FM you might be better stumping up for the i5 then

Mrs had some water get into her MacBook Air which has created a sort of black bar down the right side of the screen. Apple want £450 to sort it and a place on Bothwell St want £400.

Any recommendations for cheaper places?  The laptop was only £800 new and being a student, she doesn't fancy paying half that to fix the screen!

If you're going 27" don't bother with 1080p go higher.

Ebuyer are generally good for reasonably priced monitors. I got a nice Acer from there

I only have a 3gb 1060 GPU, so I don't think i would see the benefit of going 1440p, or would I ?

Is that one of the new Nvidia 1060s? If so, you could certainly play games at a higher resolution. Not just about gaming though, a higher res monitor would be better all round. I went 4k,even if you don't get the full benefit now it's more future proof

Certainly something to think about, might look at 1440p stuff.

Might be worth giving this guy a bell https://www.yell.com/biz/k-4-komputers-larkhall-3661384/. He did some work for one of my family who seemed happy enough with the repair and the price.

If you get a suitable quote the shop's just a coupla minutes from Larky train station.

Set OneDrive up on my laptop and PC so that I can continue working on files etc on the go and it seemed ike the easiest 'out the box' solution for me however now all my desktop shortcuts/icons are syncing between the two machines and I have two firefox shortcuts etc.

Is there a way I can tell OneDrive not to sync shortcuts? I know I can disable disable syncing altogether however I'd still like files to come over?

Edit: Scrap that - it's only .lnk files that are syncing, not desktop shortcuts. Just need to manually change the file type on my main machine and problem solved.

Does anyone know of a way to search through multiple excel files and produce a result on a mobile device?

Example 25 files but I want to search for ‘apple’.

Returns file 1,3,19

Filtering to a line would be awesome.

Is it possible to run a dos or Linux terminal?

I know you said mobile device although if you have access to a windows machine, you can use windows explorer to search contents of multiple files in a directory (see: https://seekfast.org/blog/search-text-in-documents/search-text-in-multiple-excel-files/).

If you're using an android tablet/mobile, this might be useful for you: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/63423/unix-utilities-cat-grep-ls-etc-for-android/63428#63428

Talking of drones... I got one today but I've been unable to connect my phone to it. My phone uses the android 8.0.0 system and it can see the drone in the wifi part in settings but just won't connect. I saw some geeky page when I googled it but didn't really understand what they were trying to say. Any ideas?

I'd have thought you'd need a radio transmitter rather than wifi or bluetooth to control it, unless it's a toy for the garden. I know nothing though.
