Unpopular opinions.

Well it annoys me that so many people pretend to like it when it’s such utter shite. You also need to spend about £20 extra to watch the big fights. I’m still reeling from the time I stayed up to watch the Mayweather Pac-Man fight that was dubbed the “sporting event of the century” it was a truly pathetic spectacle.

You’ve gone too far down the rabbit hole with your no one actually likes boxing theory’s

This boxing chat is fucking horrendous. Boxing is a fantastic sport. Has been incredibly popular as long as sport existed and is one of the most complex and nuanced sports going. The business side of it is horrible and unsavoury. The fitness and skill levels required to be even a semi decent professional boxer are acquired over a lifetime. There might be folk who like boxing for macho reasons. They are unlikely to understand it though. It's not called the sweet science for nothing.

Throbber would love a Matchroom fight night. Loads of terrible lager, button down shirts, jeans and scheux, low grade cocaine and then a singalong of Sweet Caroline before a juiced up hype job knocks out a Tijuana taxi driver.

In slight tangential defence of throbber, there is a bit of high camp in boxing. Being good at it gives folk the confidence to dress how they want. Just look at some of the stuff folk wear in the ring or at the press conference. A boxing gym can be a “safe space” where emotions are laid bare and folk have the conversations they’re afraid to have in the outside world. The two multimillionaire blokes on tv skelping each other is just the tip of the iceberg and below that there is so much good that comes from the sport.
