You also need to spend about £20 extra to watch the big fights. I’m still reeling from the time I stayed up to watch the Mayweather Pac-Man fight that was dubbed the “sporting event of the century” it was a truly pathetic spectacle. Has been incredibly popular as long as sport existed and is one of the most complex and nuanced sports going. The business side of it is horrible and unsavoury. The fitness and skill levels required to be even a semi decent professional boxer are acquired over a lifetime. There might be folk who like boxing for macho reasons. Being good at it gives folk the confidence to dress how they want. Just look at some of the stuff folk wear in the ring or at the press conference. A boxing gym can be a “safe space” where emotions are laid bare and folk have the conversations they’re afraid to have in the outside world.
