Democracy is a waste of time. Get everyone out of Westminster and Buckingham Palace, machine gun them into the Thames and let someone  with tanks, shiny boots and an inordinate amount of medals on his smart uniform run the place. Graeme Souness could do the job IMO.

My mate posted pictures of himself having breakfast with Graeme Souness in a hotel the other day. Said he was a thoroughly nice man. He didn't mention whether he thought he was dictator material though.

You could be on to something. Dick would have to scrub up a bit but he could capture the Pinochet look. Anyone who says "mac n chesse" or starts a sentence with "So" to be thrown out of a helicopter 5,000 ft above Gayfield.

On point 2, blacking up has wildly racist connotations because it was used historically to ridicule and torment the entire race. It’s conclusive.

It is not, because what if the person is not aware of that, or they were forced to do it at knife point, or they needed to portray a character and felt this need tipped the balance, or they consulted with a black peoples interest group, or they are actually a pale mixed race person and you don't realise, or they are doing a tribute for Rememberance, or they have a principled stand that it doesn't matter as long they know their intentions are not racist, or, or, or, or...

Both camps - left and right - discredit themselves by this tendency towards lazy absolutism.

Pretty much the only valid reason. When people point out that blacking up is regarded as offensive because of its history people who still want to black up afterwards are easily identified as twats. Unfortunately, it is hard to distinguish the ignorant from the twats without a lengthy discussion and so ignorant blacked up  people are pilloried on the assumption that they are twats.

Same goes for people who wear swastika armbands because they are into Hinduism or pointy headed ghost outfits because they are portraying a dead conehead.

As an aside, I also know a white lassie who managed to successfully dress up as Eazy E without blacking up.

I don’t think ignorance is a valid excuse. Maybe once if you’re being kind, but these days I don’t think it’s acceptable to blame stupidity and a refusal to learn for people making racist statements.
