hearthammer Posted August 15, 2020 Share Posted August 15, 2020 Things that have had me wondering : When the race card shows the specific weight to be carried on a particular horse (eg, 9st 2lbs) and the jockey has a claim of, say, 5lbs, is the jockey's claim weight deducted from the specific weight shown ?? Why do many races have distances that are extended by the round sum furlong lengths (ie, 7fl 37yards/1m 4fl 65yards) ?? I can see why this would make sense in the old days when a trip to the Bookies was required or a decision to pay your betting tax on your stake or winnings was involved. Similarly, I could understand if the bets were permutations, but the stake and (expected) winnings shown would suggest otherwise. To me, this choice only seems to lend itself to going into the later games with the bet already lost or not having the opportunity to bank some of the winnings from the earlier games and then place the balance on the later ones.
