I want to limit the amount that I use though so I can make sure I know how much money I have and so I don't get carried away, but I think I'll go for those two. Betfair has a good profit and loss feature which lets you see your profit on the day, a week a month and 3 months which lets you keep tabs on your spending. I've been working my way through them all one at a time, which isn't hard to keep track of really. Bet365, Victor Chandler, William Hill, Ladbrokes, Paddypower, have all been done so far, and I'll be doing Betfred, Skybet and maybe 1 or 2 more afterwards. As far as bonuses go, I forgot to mention before that William Hill's offer is really good. It's only a £25 free bet, but the odds of your qualifying bet and free bet only have to exceed 1/5, whereas for most of the others it's around evens. I've only been signed up for a few weeks, have made use of their £50 free bet when joining, and £5 casino bet. I've actually profited from them since I've signed up, and now they're giving me this. If you only bet on certain types of events, or backed teams that were poor prices compared with what you could have got elsewhere, then that will have you marked down as a potential loser. Free bets are given out for customer retention. Give a customer who may otherwise leave a little reward, and you will increase their exposure to the site, make them feel valued, and improve your reputation with them. You thereby significantly increase the probability of generating repeat business. This may happen in a few different circumstances. It could be because the customer has complained, or the customer is losing. In addition, free bets may also be given to low-risk customers. That is, customers who show trends of backing low value selections at low value prices. These customers eventually will lose because they are backing against value. In the same way that backing value doesn’t mean that every bet will be a winner, but overall a profit will show, giving free bets doesn’t mean that every customer will make a profit for the bookmaker, but overall the bookmaker will make money. A bookmaker gives out 10 x £20 free bets. 5 of the bets are losers. 1 person makes a £20 profit and leaves. The other 4 winners are retained by the site, and although they have won with their free bet, eventually the winnings from the free bet are lost. As long as the additional yield from these customers is more than £20 the bookmaker has made a profit out of giving the free bets out. Note that there is a difference between an offer and a free bet. An offer is generic and is part of the PR / marketing budget. A free bet that one member gets but other members don’t is a retention tool. If a bookmaker randomly gives you a free bet that other members don’t get, and you haven’t complained, then double check how you bet, they have almost certainly identified weak betting patterns from you. To think that they have given you a free bet because they are nice friendly people is nothing but naïve. The larger the free bet the more they have identified the likelihood they will make money off you. What you said actually makes perfect sense. I'm just not sure how they've come to conclude that I follow one of their "patterns" that would classify me as a losing gambler. The point I was making was that it wasn't unlucky for them, they will have factored that in to a yield expectation when they made the algorithm of when, who and how much should be given in free bets.
