£20K is ridiculously excessive, just as £0 is silly.

I'd imagine a compensation figure of £5k or thereabouts, plus a pre-season friendly at Central Park would be a decent compromise.

As an aside It will cost St.Mirren upwards of £100K for bagging Gus and they've not yet dealt with the issue of Andy Millen either.

Not if he's "in a job" it won't. SG will be banking on Gus getting a job quickly so the club can exercise a "clause" , and if Gus get's a job Andy will be joining him , and that'll cost us nothing !

Sg is giving a masterclass on how to get rid of a contracted management team and bring in another , all for next to nothing ! :)

How do you know this billy? Whether Gus gets another job or not shouldnt make any different to the compensation, we shouldnt haggle with Gus anyway, his compensation is well deserved for the job he did.

It dosent really matter whether its 3 months or 3 years left on a contract, the guys still in contract and Cowdenbeath want to get as much as they can for him, pay them what they want, take it off Lennon's salary for the year and let the guy get his job started.

Your being a wee bit unrespectful there. Smaller clubs struggle like hell to survive plus I admire those that get out and support their local team. We are just a small diddy team in SPL terms.

20 grand does seem excessive for the final part of Lennons 10 week contract.

He's simply using much the same tone as some of the Cowdenbeath dafties that are pure raging in here <_< . It's just unfortunate that Cowdenbeath decided to blab in the media about ongoing negotiations. I suppose they were doing this to try and apply a bit of pressure to the St.Mirren board. Maybe they don't fancy their own negotiating skills or something?

There will be a little bit more hot air and then Lennon will be appointed. Cowdenbeath and St.Mirren will become friends again and life will go on.

It will make a considerable difference ! Do you honestly think that SG bagged him knowing he would have to splash out 100k + ?

It's good to see St. Mirren won't be bullied by some mickey mouse outfit and thier outrageous demands. It's a shame Cowdenbeath seem to want to do this all through the media as well. How utterly unprofessional. At least St. Mirren will be able to hold thier heads high after this nasty little ordeal is over.

Surely this post wins the prize for sheer stupidity. St Mirren being bullied by Cowdenbeath!! Cowden don't want to conduct this through the media - they have not heard a word from St Mirren nor have they had the offer of a single penny compensation. Anything they know about St Mirren's intentions they have read in the papers like everybody else. Div is right - a settlement will have to be negotiated; but saying you're "not in a position" to offer compensation is not a form of negotiation.

Decent St Mirren fans who know what it is to support a struggling team in hard times must sit with their head in their hands as they look at the way their board have conducted themselves. If St Mirren carry on like this they will lose the most promising young manager in Scotland and it will be their own fault.

I asked - "how do you know this", this is the bit that was relevant in my question.

20K for the best young manager in the country is too much for St Mirren - what's he worth to Saints if he prevents relegation, gets a good league position or even wins something?

Alex Smith's article in The Record sums up how good the guy is - tight fisted gits.

St. Mirren certainly kept their '97 Scottish Cup win out of the media, and everything else for that matter.

The sneaky buddies managed to convince the world that Killie won the Scottish cup in 97. Is there no limits to their underhandedness?

To be fair, Cowdenbeath are not covering themselves in glory with this by conducting all their business through the press, Gilmour as usual keeps things dignified and in house.

Its nothing to do with being tight fisted, im sure you dont give money away you dont have to, and St Mirren dont either.

It was a Saints club spokesman who started the whole thing by telling Jim Spence Cowdenbeath were after "silly money".

The deal is done. Lennon will be unveiled either later today, or tomorrow at the latest as St.Mirren's new manager.

I beleive Stuart Balmer will be his assistant, and that Andy Millen will leave the club.

The two clubs have agreed some sort of compromise, part of which will involve the a pre-season friendly at Central Park :)
