A relatively uneventful days racing. Cav clearly isn't interested in the green jersey anymore since he allowed Thor to go for the intermediate sprints unchallenged.

Another fairly easy win for Cav today, he`s clearly the fastest man in a straight line now. Renshaw got a bit violent butting Dean when leading out the sprint though!

Cav`s probably satisified enough with getting the stage wins, but if the green jersey becomes viable as a bi-product, he`ll start showing more of an interest.

Renshaw has apparently been disqualified from the tour for the headbutting.

A little harsh, a substantial fine would`ve sufficed IMO. Is their any grounds for an appeal by HTC? We`ll see how Cav can cope without his top leadout man now.

Only reason he got taken out of the race was the dislike the establishment have for Cavendish.

The stuff you saw today goes on day in day out on throughout the season without any punishment.

Apparently it's ok for 2 riders to have a punch up (after the stage had finished TBF) with one trying to hit the other with a wheel.

If they say it's because the blocking of Farrar then maybe the have a case to dq from the stage but not the tour.

Cav is the 3rd man since WWII to win at least 3 stages in 3 consecutive tours. The other 2 being Mercx & Hinault.

Guys you are having a laugh, Renshaw panicked when he saw Julian Dean bring Tylar Farrar through and got in front of Cavendish. Renshaw then realised that Dean had him for pace and was ready to launch Farrar and stuck the head into him 3 times. Dean had his line and didn't deviate from it or "bully his way out". Renshaw then looks over his shoulder seeing Farrar and swings to the left forcing Farrar over into the barriers and blocking him. 2 completely unaccapetable and dangerous acts from Renshaw and quite rightly booted out. He's lucky he didn't cause 2 crashes.

Personally i'd have stripped Cavendish of the victory as it came about from basically cheating from his teammate but then who gets awarded it as had the above not happened Farrar would have taken Pettachi and would have been in a great position to have taken it from Cavendish.

Cavendish won't win the green jersey but not just because of losing Renshaw but he isn't willing or able to fight for the intermediate sprint points, and that's what cost him last year and he should have walked it last year but it's not down to stage victories.

2009 - Thor Hushovd (1 stage)

2008 - Oscar Freire (1)

2007 - Tom Boonen (2)

2006 - Robbie McEwan (3)

2005 - Thor Hushovd (0)

2004 - Robbie McEwan (2)

2003 - Baden Cooke (1)

2002 - Robbie McEwan (2)

2001 - Erik Zabel (3)

2000 - Erik Zabel (1)

Zabel also won it in 1998 and 1999 without winning any stages.

Until Cavendish is willing to fight out the smaller sprints as well I don't see him winning the green jersey.

The ariel camera clearly shows Dean leaning into Renshaw.

hoy is dole scum, the same as all the rest of the of the taxpayer funded 'elite' athletes. the government spends millions so the country can get a wee hard on every four years when we win at some sports that the majority of the world doesn't care about or can't afford to do. team sky has shown british olympic excellence to be a load of shite, in the summer of 2008 you couldn't open a paper without reading about how much of a genius dave brailsford is and how great his techniques are, unsuprisingly when he's put in a even competition (protour events) it's all shown to be bullshit.

if the market won't support an athlete to be professional then they should then it should be a past time/hobby. there are hundreds of pro cyclists out working hard 10 months a year yet guys like hoy are lauded for living it large on taxpayers money and competing once every four years. get a real job!

Contador really caught Andy sleeping today. It might only be 10 seconds, but given the advantage Contador will have in the TT every one counts. You ahve to wonder what Contador was thinking though, if he had just put his head down and went for the line he could have took more time instead of continually looking round and contesting the stage with Rodriguez.

Contador has got Schleck exactly where he wants him, no need to defend the jersey just stick with Andy.

Not sure I would wait till the TT though, you just never know what can happen with the weather although they will go last & 2nd last so the conditions should be the same for both.

i think contador might have been looking for vino to bridge over, it's understandable what he did but pretty bad form in cycling to attack when your team mate is leading. i think contador was trying to give vino a chance for the win.

i also don't think defending the jersey is that big a deal for saxo. cancellara, breschel and o'grady are so strong they can pretty much deal with it themselves.

The last thing Contador was looking for was Vino to come and take the stage win. And as for being bad to attack when your teammate is leading - that doesn't apply when it is Vinokourov who is constantly challenging/challenged by members of his own team, Vino isn't a team player and this was shown when at T-Mobile when his own team chased him down.
