Desert Nomad
Going by the form on the day before the ITT, it could be the other way round. Nibali's opportunities might be limited to descents, be interesting to see if Wiggo's got the bottle for it wi the Rojo jersey on. Could be one of the closest finishes in a GT for some years, with only 2 mins covering the top 10. Well in a race of seconds Wiggins lost 5 to 3rd place Kessiakoff and 6th place Mollema, while also conceding 1 to Nibali. Got to pay attention on those run-ins Wiggins!
Desert Nomad
Nibbles nibbles another few seconds back in a bonus sprint today, only 4 seconds behind Wiggins. Should be a cracking weekend in the mountains with only 3.13 mins covering the top 20 overall. Unfortunately no live coverage of the epic climb up Angliru on sunday as ITV4 makes way for Touring Cars

For all the folk complaining about Liggett & Sherwin during the Tour, couldn't see a problem, I just can't stand the Aussie guy comentating for ITV on this one. Personally don't like the time bonus for int sprints. It's ok for points toward the green jersey, but take the shine off the GC. Then again, everyone knows the rules & Nibali's using them to his advantage. Edited September 2, 2011 by kiddy
Gnash
Eurosport should have it. For all the folk complaining about Liggett & Sherwin during the Tour, couldn't see a problem, I just can't stand the Aussie guy comentating for ITV on this one. I think he's all right, but he's clearly not doing the commentary just for ITV4, and it really shows the benefit of having a co-commentator / summariser - just listening to one voice the whole time is weird. To be fair with Phil Liggett, at least there is the comedy aspect of him getting everything completely wrong.
Desert Nomad
Not on Eurosport either. They've got tennis and superbike action. Think its available on ITV player. The Aussie guy is fine, at least he has an in depth knowledge, could do with a co commentator though. No way you could have Ligget and Sherwan on the Vuelta, they wouldn't recognise half of the riders!

kiddy
It was on Eurosport 2 The talk is of tomorrows stage coverage not being covered. Sure ITV4 said they'd be streaming it, as they're showing Touring Cars at the same time. The only exception is Sunday 4 September, when Stage 15 will be broadcast exclusively on ITV.com, with an extended highlights package on ITV4 that evening & Eurosport only appear to have highlights at 19.45. A real shame, as it's surely going to be the pivotal stage of the race.
kiddy
As for todays stage, "Friggins" surely dealy a fatal blow to the likes of Nibali, Kessiakoff & Rodrigues hopes. IMO the threat now comes from Cobo as Mollema didn't look to have the gas to attack. I wonder if the SKY lads can deliver the knockout punch on the Angliru tomorrow?
kiddy
Cobo in red, tames the Angliru. Froome looks the stronger of the two Sky riders, now in 2nd. Wiggo losing approx 20 secs to his team mate. Cobo from Froome at 20, Wiggo at 46 & 1 min 30 to Mollema. Nibali/Fugelsang/Rodrigez nowhere. Gnash
If you ignore Cobo, that was an good ride and an excellent day for the 2 Sky riders. Unfortunately for them, Cobo's ascent up the Angliru was awesome. It was actually pretty heartening to see riders of the quality of Wiggins swaying across the road, barely able to keep the pedals turning. That climb was brutal.

You can't ignore Cobo though, considering his rather weak Palmares, where he's suddenly pulled this form from is rather remarkable.

A bit like Chris Froome then eh? Tbh Cobo has always had the talent, but his previous association with the scandal hit Saunier Duval team doesn't do him any favours.
myshkin
Cobo's won Pais Vasco which is stronger form than either of the two Sky riders, particularly Froome. The Landis-ometer has been twitching for most of the race. Still twists and turns to come with extra juicing likely to come in the rest day. New blood anyone?
Shuggie_Murray7
Been watcing the Vuelta so far with interest, just had no time to post on it, but the Angliru is probably the most vicious climb I have seen, watching Wiggins being barely able to turn the pedals was incredible.

It's right up there with the Zoncolan in Italy as the toughest climb in pro cycling. The Tour de France just doesn't have anything that comes close. Unfortunately for Sky the rest of the race provides few opportunities to get the jersey back. Only Wednesday has a tough finish. How they'd love another time trial.

Did I hear the commentator right in saying that Millar threw a fit at race organisers at a pervious Veulta because they made them go up the same climb? Fucking hell, no wonder. Surely Sky have a decent chance of being in red again though given that there are 2 of them? Well providing they decide who the stronger is. Will they give Froome the nod over Wiggins after yesterday?

It was more a protest at having to descend the Cordal in atrocious conditions, he fell twice. clicky There are various Youtube videos of that stage. It`s up there with Pantani`s Alpine epic in the 98 Tour as one of the worst stages for weather ever. Edit: The Angliru in the 99 Vuelta was a shocker as well! Sean Kelly was referring to Robert Millar rather than David - the year he was leading the race but was getting worked over by the press, the opposition, and even his own team mates. this link is a good read....... http://www.thewashingmachinepost.net/bob/vuelta.html Robert Millar (partially) got his own back by pacing Kelly up mountains (despite being in different teams) to win the Vuelta a year or two later. Form, that was 4 years ago when riding for Saunier Duval! Injury apart, Wiggo has won the Dauphine Libere this season. I can see where you are going with this. I don't think Cobo is a clean rider, but I don't think the two Sky riders bossing the race was down to lucozade either.
