Despite the Gavia's removal, the Mortirolo certainly provided excitement & a GC shake up.

Nibali & Carapaz take 1.20 out of Roglic. Cicconi takes the stage for Trek, from Astana's Hurt. Maglia Rosa group at 1.40.

Carapaz still leads, Nibali at 1.47, Roglic at 2.09, Landa at 3.15 & Mollema at 5.00.

Yates 8th at 6.46.

Both carapaz and nibali need more time on roglic, carapaz especially. Nibali can at least time trial fairly well. With the final time trial being relatively short I'd think nibali would be looking for a minute over roglic

Roglic will lose more time as his team can't give him the necessary support.

2 stages of the tour of Britain in Scotland this year, stage 1 goes from Glasgow to Kirkcudbright, and stage 2 is a 103 mile border stage starting and finishing in Kelso.
Meh.

Some sort of epic stage in the NW including the Bealach na Ba would have been tremendous

If the Kelso stage had been a TT it may have been worth the travel to go & see, but they're holding it in the middle of nowhere, where people won't journey miles to see 5 secs of guys whizzing by, probably in the pishing rain.
Why not Glasgow-Edinburgh via Falkirk/Stirling/Alloa/Dunfermline/Kirkcaldy? There's a good few known climbs (Crow/Tak etc) & it's right on the populations' doorstep.

Talk of unrest in Movistar given short shrift in yesterday's stage. Rumours of Carapaz (moving) to Ineos next year, Landa/Bahrain & Quintana/UAE, appeared laughable. With their two main Giro riders tightening their grip on the race.

Fan-bloody-tastic finish to today's stage.

Looked like the 3 man breakaway was going to stay clear - 17 seconds ahead with 1km to go.  But they started mucking about ahead of the sprint the peleton closed them down.

Two of the break were caught but Cima stayed clear of Ackerman by 1 bike length.  5m more on a 200km stage and he would have been caught!

I was going mental like a last minute goal in the football. :D

It's setup for a intriguing finish in the last couple of stages.

You'd think Nibali needs to take a bit of time from Roglic to get a bit of a buffer for the final TT.   Roglic looked to have a bit of form to have a bit of a go toward the end of today's stage, despite being exposed for large parts of the race.  Carapaz is in the box seat but hasn't really been tested with his teammate Landa looking like he's the one one that still has the legs going into the last mountain stage.

It could yet all be blown apart tomorrow.

Should be Carapaz victory now, and well deserved. Nobody talking about him beforehand and hasn't put a foot wrong. Expect him to lose time tomorrow to Nibali and Roglic with the latter pushing Landa off the podium

Lopez should get a medal. Not enough of that in the sport IMO.

Going back for more after the first couple of slaps was the icing on the cake.

ETA: Thumbs up from Wiggins, too.

Image result for lopez spectator punch

I've got a feeling that Lopez will get at least big fine or even a suspension but it would be worth it. It's surprising that so few of the idiotic spectators have been punched by riders that they have impeded.

The race cars and motorcycles can be even worse though. Remember Demoitie being killed by a motorbike at Gent Wevelgem? Or Johnny Hoogerland being thrown into a barbed wire fence by a media car at the 2011 Tour de France? A motorbike knocked another rider off his bike at the same event.

I think he's already been cleared.
