On another note, outside the fact he's a professional road cyclist, has there ever been any suspicion over Andy Schleck and use of PEDs?

apart from his association with frank (busted for a masking agent and wired 10,000 euros to fuentes) and riis (60% haemocrit and dope peddler according to tyler hamilton) and matching contador in the 2010 tour other from his mechanical? nope.

andy takes some stick because he only ever shows form at liege-bastonge-liege and the tour which arouses suspicion. he's obviously doing something but the 2011 tour seemed fairly tame and his win on galibier was the best days racing in the past few years. sky raised the bar in 2012 though and i think we'll see fireworks from him in the tour.

Just finished watching the Armstrong/Oprah progs, & my conclusion is that he's only sorry for getting caught. He was still denying it to just before the interview, with the twitter pic (as posted earlier here) only a matter of days previous to the interview.

With the collapse of the Federal Investigation, & legal action shutting down the USADA civil case, he should now be put on the stand & charged.

What were the dropped charges including, that the programme quoted, drug trafficking, fraud, use of PED's, etc?

The only guy coming out of this trial so far with any credit is Jackshe, at least he`s admitting it. Beloki, Nozal, Etxebarria`s excuses are incredible, they must feel pretty watertight to deny anything and basically pass the blame to their team doctors.

basso claiming in a spanish court room that he won the 2006 giro - by 9 minutes - clean.

after dominating the giro clean he decided to start doping but luckily fuentes was busted before he got the chance to use any doped blood.

Basso`s lies are incredible, he had blood extracted, but it was for the Tour & so didn`t use it, WTF? :1eye

Nadal wants athletes implicated to be named

La Gazzetta thinks Basso is telling porkies

The difference between the Italian press here, and the Spanish is marked. The Italians seem to actively want to bring down Basso & Cippollini, while the Spaniards sit idly by.

Manzano joins Jaksche

Contador testifies on February 22nd, in person & not by video-link as previously stated. I can`t see him providing anything damning at all on Saiz or Fuentes. This case could really do with an active sports person not to pull the party line, sadly the Spaniards seem to be involved in a mass cover-up, which might run very high indeed.

considering rafa's friendship with bert and the possibility that he's on it i doubt his veracity.

the italian press aren't exactly having to work very hard to get mario and ivan. there was a phone number in the documents relating to one of the clients that gazzetta used to phone cippo on and the documents linking basso to fuentes in 2004 have been public for years and basso admitted he was brillio in 2006. you are correct that if their was any will within the spanish press or establishment to get to the bottom of this it could be easily done.

obviously they aren't willing to risk 2 euros, a world cup, 11 slams and 5 davis cups by opening pandoras box.

Certainly helped Super Mario get over the mountains.

Mind you, extra testosterone would come in handy.

To break the subject matter of doping, I'd just like to show my appreciation for Peter Sagan. The guy is an absolute hero. There's definitely room for daft celebrations and all round larking around in the world of cycling.

Yes, he is smiling for the camera while descending in the Tour de San Luis.

Well played, Peter. Top patter.

Anyone going to be watching the track cycling from Minsk this week? The BBC are showing it from Wednesday to Saturday IIRC.

Since the Olympics I've started to absolutely love this sport

Hamilton gives it both barrels today, Riis clearly in the firing line. Black urine :ohttp://velonews.competitor.com/2013/02/news/puerto-hamilton-confirms-riis-put-him-in-contact-with-fuentes_275199

Edit: also now appears that Contador won`t be called to testify. Spanish won`t be keen to have him involved as it already appears Fuentes & co are fucked after Hamilton, Manzano & Jaksche evidence.

The cycling season truly kicks off this weekend on British screens with some live racing for a change! Paris-Nice prologue live sunday afternoon on Eurosport then live throughout the week. Tirreno-Adriatico has snaffled all the big stage racing names and it's live from wednesday.

Also the two Italian one day races this weekend, delayed coverage of Strade Bianche this afternoon and then same again for Roma Maxima tomorrow. Bring it on!

Great 1-2 for Cannondale at Strade Bianche with Sagan happy to play second fiddle to his team-mate Moser.

Will be interesting to see who`s up there at Paris-Nice. TJVG is hot favourite, Gesink has been in ok form recently, but can`t see him doing much in a race like Paris-Nice, TT ability isn`t good enough.
