Watching the European championships, GB women's 4k pursuit team finish 4th with a quartet that was thrown together with Laura Trott and Katie Archibald both missing. They were saying in the interviews after that they really struggled to adapt to the track as it's a 200m track rather than the usual 250m.

Ludicrous stuff from Elia Viviani at the European championships. He was 7th in the road race today, then rocks up at the track to win the elimination race.

Silver for Jack Carlin in the sprint, gutted for him as he was obviously suffering from a crash in the semi final which saw him awarded a 2-0 win.

Is Carlin as good as he was hyped to be years ago or is he always going to flatter to deceive?
He did well to win 1 leg of the final after the heavy crash in the semi. In all the sprints this week the rider drawing position 2 has won twice, that's in the men's and women's combined. He was 2 im the second and third legs. He was a tyre's width from taking the gold in the second leg. He was visibly fucked when the third leg started 10 minutes later.

Imo winning multiple medals at various international championships isn't flattering to deceive.

Have ITV lost the rights to the Vuelta this year?

Roglic a big favourite to claim 4 in a row. I'd expect Carapaz and Hindley to be there or thereabouts. The bookies have Evenepoel as the 2nd favouritre, but I'm not convinced he's a 3 week GT racer. It certainly wouldn't be where my money is going.

It's Valverde's final GT before he retires, so I expect he will be on the attack and hunting for stages throughout.

Yeah, they didn't have it last year either. Had to watch the highlights on Eurosport/Quest. They don't seem to do their podcast any more either which is a shame.

They've spunked more money on footy..

an EFL highlights package (possibly the old Quest one?) and a 3 season La Liga deal..

Minority sport dumped.....

pity I used the highlights package occasionally....

Who's going to win?

Haven't a scooby..

Looking forward to it all....

Having read the extent of Bernal's injuries, I'd be very surprised if he reaches the levels he was at before the accident.
His injuries really were horrific.
I posted pictures at the time with the damage to the bus, very lucky it wasn't even worse.

Vuelta starting with a TTT*. Can only imagine that'll slew the GC in favour of JV/Roglic.

*I love TTT's, & they're a great spectacle for the public to watch, but should only be run as a stand alone stage in major races; with an overall prize over a season. They can have a devastating effect on genuine GC contenders aspirations.

At least its the first stage, It becomes even more of a farce when its a week or so in and teams have already lost riders to crashes etc so getting the numbers over the line to stop the clock is even more of a challenge

If Valverde completes the Vuelta he will become the oldest ever rider to finish the race.

Just been on Oddschecker, best price 135/1..

I see Quintana in the news, signed an extension to '25with Arkea then 'lost' sixth place in the '22 Le Tour for a Tramadol infraction....

Canny wait.....

Kelderman & van Baarle sign for Jumbo Visma. They’ve got a ridiculously strong squad, will have a job keeping all their top players happy.
Kind of strange one with van Baarle going there despite it being predicted for so long and the Dutch man riding for a Dutch team. He's leaving a team where he is likely to be a team leader in classics for one where he won't be.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/aug/19/dan-bigham-blasts-to-new-hour-cycling-record

"Britain’s Dan Bigham smashed the Hour record when he completed a distance of 55.548 kilometres around the Tissot Velodrome in Grenchen, Switzerland on Friday.

Bigham, an aerodynamics specialist and race engineer for British cycling team Ineos Grenadiers, paced himself to perfection on his prototype Pinarello track bike, going almost half a kilometre further than Belgium’s Victor Campenaerts in 2019 – a huge margin. Campenaerts managed 55.089km. Five riders had tried and failed to beat the record since then, most recently Alex Dowsett in November 2021."
