Privacy Laws ahem. Actually it applies in both Japan and Korea.

Not quoting the full post, but I also though it was lot's of pervy c***s taking photos of school kids.

At my work we have a 'media person' walks around taking photos and videos of every day work, the posts them on Facebook/Ista/Twit.

Seems to hover round the younger women to be honest.

I asked someone one day 'what that c**t doing, he a bit of a perv'

He's the owners son!

In a few of our shopping malls (I know, i know) they have coffee stalls under the escalators and a few old guys seem to position themselves there and I'm sure it's not just for the coffee.  A couple of the posters on an ex-pat forum I'm on actually made some joke (or not) about making sure they get prime position in the place so not just the Japanese and Koreans at it.  In Hong Kong they actually installed frosted panels on the escalators to stop upskirting from below.

School photographers get away with murder, when you consider the grief that mobile DJs get.

According to a mate.

As an aside, in Korea they are not allowed to sell smartphones that have silent mode on their smartphones for obvious reasons.

P.S. It may be in Japan.

I'm perplexed. What are the obvious reasons?

Gotta admit, when I read it at first, I read it as not being able to put the entire phone on silent, too.

Only after some hard thinking I realised it was the shutter sound only.

I'd assumed that the camera noise couldn't be disabled on our phones either. I remember the issue being in the news years ago. Lo and behold, I could have been a furtive deviant this whole time, and nobody would've known.

Yep...I was overly lacking in detail in my original post.
