Empty shelves? Just line up the products, that'll be fine.

Our local Scotmid's has had no tonic water for weeks now, and Tesco's only got that overpriced Fever Tree stuff. What a weird thing to run out of..

That's the kind of shit that retail managers are taught as encouraging sales. Labels all nicely lined up facing forwards too, you'll notice. A lot of retail theory seems to revolve around the assumption that their customers are thick.

All of these empty shelves demonstrate that the shortages are much worse than you might imagine, as leaving empty spaces is a faux pas almost as bad as telling a customer to f**k off. They're all taught to fill spaces up with something, anything, to give the illusion of a bumper selection. That's why you sometimes see random piles of Coke multipacks (or similar) brought through from the back room and dumped into the whole foods section until the latest pallets of flour arrive. If the shelves are bare, then the back room is just as bad.

Presumably they're having to prioritise what gets delivered. So, shitey tonic water that nobody likes gets bumped for trays of beans (that nobody likes but buy anyway).

Even shit like Pepsi has been appearing and disappearing from Tesco's inventory, and you can't imagine they'd be too pleased that people might try a cheaper competitor and find there's not much difference.

I have noticed Summer's biscuits reappearing in Aldis and Sainsbury's in South Edinburgh and I haven't seen them for years.

As they're baked in the Peffermill Road factory there's no distribution problems either.

Nice biscuits too.

It might have passed you by but Britain has gone insane over gin for the last few years. Everyone with a lockup has a still and bottling plant.

I just assumed they were all knocking it back neat, like the alcoholic mothers of yesteryear.

FWIW, I went into a Spar solely for tonic water last night.

Came out with a bottle of the Mediterranean Fevertree stuff (and ended up having a Cairngorm Wildcat/Gold, Highland Park & Monkey Shoulder).

Tonic water is absolutely bogging. Much nicer to have a gin with lemonade. I've heard gin and Fanta lemon is fantastic but I've yet to try it.

There are very few things that can't be improved with Fanta Lemon.

For example, I'm currently drinking it during the Dundee derby

And most folk who drink it don't actually like the taste of gin. That's why they either buy overly flavoured gins, gin liqueurs, or absolutely drown it in tonic so no gin flavour remains.

The latter type will also be incredulous at anyone drinking tonic water by itself, even though that's a shade from what they do.

Gin and grapefruit juice is very popular in Finland where most pubs have it on tap. It was invented for the 1954 Olympics (whose stadium I've slept in).

The exception that proves the rule.

Love gin but can't touch it nowadays, drinking to much of the stuff turns me into an emotional wreak
There's nothing inherent about gin which causes that. It'd be the same if you were drinking similar volumes of any spirit.

You get a different effect from different forms of spirits though, so it can't be just the alcohol that does it. Tequila is much trippier than whisky for example, and aniseed based drinks like ouzo are wild.

I stayed there early 2017 also, it’s a bloody good spot and both times we’ve had good offers for the room. That view was only £150 a night.
