I have some distant relations (literally) from New Zealand who send the usual Christmas email each year telling me what shot they’ve been up to.   This year’s communication  was “interesting” with two poems sent instead.

Spoiler

It’s great to see the Motherland returning to the fold

Rejoining with the Commonwealth as was in days of old

Perhaps they now can stem the tide of Wetbacks from the south

And isolate the China strain impacting on their health

We watch the EU shadow fade, we welcome that of course

As Members of the Commonwealth celebrate her divorce

This one is a bit longer and is called The Dragons Breath.

Spoiler

In a growing Chinese city a primeval dragon lay

A hibernating monster of miniscule array

Till one day inadvertently an accidental poke

Disturbed the sleeping horror and the ancient beast awoke

The dragon roared in silence as a deadly viral flame

Erupted from its gaping maw and covered its domain

The message that it carried and displeasure it expelled

Showed no discrimination with the people that it felled

Communist officials acted slowly in confusion

And even blamed America wide spreading that delusion

They finally sealed the city off to stop the plagues escape

But the dragon’s breath was faster so their action was too late

Inaction by the CCP was far from adequate

The viral breath escaped before officials got a grip

It spiralled round the planet millions catching the disease

Countries were compelled to close their stores and factories

Although the town was battened down the airport was excepted

And bookings were exceptional as was to be expected

As many boarded aircraft on an international berth

They spread the deadly virus round to all parts of the earth

The World Health Organisation compounded the distress

Ignoring Taiwanese advice that limited the mess

While pushing hard the Chinese line accepting it as true

Thus degrading down to hopeless that misnomer known as WHO

People had to isolate and shops were forced to close

Airlines had to park up planes diminishing cash flows

Travellers inadvertently were trapped in foreign lands

Expanding quite dramatically their careful budget plans

Travel was forbidden, we were told to stay at home

One person could go out for food but must be on their own

Expenses escalated to a trillion dollar loss

And bankruptcy faced traders ill prepared to meet the cost

Churches all around the world were empty and abandoned

It seems that God just wasn’t there or maybe He was stranded

Isolated in our homes we note the rising toll of death

Originating uninvited from the Chinese Dragon’s breath.

Happy New Year.
