I'm the same.The lack of steps or the steps being stuck at 3 renders the game pointless for me. The 3 step thing meant you could track things down and it felt more about skill. It's kind of just pot luck now as half the time the stuff on your nearby list just doesn't pop up at all. I haven't bothered with the update yet. I'm sure there'll be a fix for the problems soon so I'll just hang on until then. Before the game was officially released you could properly track Pokemon. As you got closer 3 steps became 2, 2 steps became 1 and so on. Now you just have to walk in circles and hope one appears. Finally got 2 Zubats after they keep appearing nearby without actually showing themselves, a Nidoran, 2 Horseas, a Squirtle and a Jigglypuff. 9 fucking Drowzees (and two that ran away) and a Hypno.
