It means there are six specialist defenders in the squad, which is about the minimum you'd normally want anyway.

But yeah, we've suddenly got a lot more options than we had just the other week.

Bryce is joining Whatley on loan at Tayport as well. Will good for them to get some experience while the reserve league is off.

Didn't make the Ayr game but good to hear Gatheussi played well. As you say, competition is great, and he is another versatile player.

As good as it is to have extra cover, I'm not sure this signing was particularly necessary. Be interesting to see how McGlynn fits all these guys in, though I'd have to imagine Ellis will be the one dropped. Benching Dougie Hill would be exceptionally harsh given his form and I can't see Mark Campbell being dropped. Annoyingly, this probably means Grant Murray will be used in midfield from now on - he isn't a midfielder, he's a defender.

If McGlynn's going to be using Murray as a midfielder, then surely this means Davidson isn't likely to get back in the team when he returns? That particular pairing would be a complete disaster. Even then, Simmons and Walker have been ever present when fit - where do they fit in?

McGlynn's played Murray, Ellis, Davidson and Simmons when available, but he's going to have to leave some of them out now; they can't all fit into the one side. Furthermore, Gatthussi looked a capable player, so I can't imagine him being left out. He might have to drop Hill, which as I said earlier would be exceptionally harsh on him. Some tough choices to be made regarding team selection, that's for sure.

Maybe but it's a good problem to have and keeps the player on their toes.

That's Thierry Gathuessi signed on a permanent deal now.

Looked a very good player against Ayr, and will provide more cover at the back.

Means there's far more bodies than places in defence, but increased competition can only be a good thing.

I would think that maybe Laurie Ellis is going to start getting a wee bit less game time from now on, though...

I agree with you there i think if you had to pick a weak position in the squad it would be left back but i feel that Gatheussi is very good on the deck and could push forward from the left and he would be able to get back with his pace quite quickly. So i could see Ellis on the bench alot now which is a shame as he has done alot for the club.

While I'm a big fan of Dougie Hill, it's easy to forget that he should've been sent off against Partick Thistle (wild lunge while the ref was further up the park about to send off Buchanan). Had the referee seen that, I think he would all be a little bit less keen to place massive responsibility on him.

He has done very well, but he isn't perfect, so it's no harm to have someone else to step in if he does falter a little.

Hill has reminded me of a young Shaun Dennis this season. Prone to moments of rashness but will happilly go through his granny to win the ball.

Real prospect we have there in my opinion.

Totally agree, i was going to say a Shaun Dennis that can actually run. Anyway, dropping Dougie would be a travesty, if anything i think Ellis would be benched before Hill.

Do you reckon that the players often read P&B, i.e., will Laurie be affected by being classed as the most likely to be dropped in favour of Gathuessi?

If you absolutely knew there was a website where people were talking about you, would you read it?

Of course you would.

Maybe some of them don't read P&B, but I would imagine they all have a look at FanTalk (which makes me shudder, I hate to think anyone pays attention to what goes on on there).

I don't think anyone is really saying anything that will come as breaking news to any of the defenders, though. They're playing the games, and they know who's doing the best.

Laurie Ellis is, by no means, a bad player. He's not even having particularly bad games. However, we've now got more defenders than places at the back, so questions will naturally be asked about who's going to miss out. I'm sure Laurie himself knows that he's one of the more borderline ones.

I'm fairly happy with this signing however I don't see where he fits in at the moment, is he a left back at all? As for CB I reckon Murray will be back there soon as Simmons, Walker, Ferry and Sloan all wanting slots there, so that leaves us with 4 CB's. It will be interesting to see who JM drops, I agree dropping Hill would be very harsh however.

The way I see it, if nobody else gets injured or suspended before before the New Year derby (a likely tale) we're going to have Wilson, Campbell, Hill, Gatheussi, Murray and Ellis fighting out the back four, Tade, Williamson, Davidson, Simmons, Murray, Walker, Sloan, Ferry and Smith for four midfield positions and Smith, Xavi and Weir for two places up top. Good luck McGlynn. He's going to have to leave out some of his 'favourites' who always play when fit.

One thing I will say is I like Campbell and Hill as a partnership at the back. I would try to fit Gatheussi in elsewhere before leaving Hill out.
