TxRover
Couple of questions for those knowledgeable on the topic: 1) Edinburgh Airport…hellhole to avoid or old, musty but usable place to fly into/out of? Thoughts on international arrival delays there? 2) Moxy Edinburgh Airport or Marriott Edinburgh Airport…do they work to lay down or poor choice? Seems either is easy to get to the Edinburgh Gateway station for the train eh? 3) Getting to Kirkcaldy from Edinburgh on Saturday…if the trains are running, that’s a no brainer…if driving, obviously leave early, but how early? And where to park the old nag. Just mulling over some ideas for a possible quick trip next year. Ta.

Assuming Edinburgh, there are regular buses and trains to Kirkcaldy; Stark's Park about a mile's walk from the bus and rail stations. Driving should take less than an hour. Parking is plentiful.

Taxis hit and miss in past depending on time of day but since Tram has been there’s been no real need to use them. Quick and frequent service into town. There’s plenty of buses too. Pal stayed in the Moxy recently when here for Connect Festival. Fairly modern and room was good. Only had a drink downstairs in Marriot. Nothing special, looked like a fairly standard Marriot. Both very handy for airport and Ingilston but that’s about it. If you’re here a few days you’d be better off in town somewhere. Driving to Kirkcaldy is fine on a Saturday. I usually leave about 1.30 and takes about 40-45 minutes. You’re going against traffic so there’s rarely problems and if you’re going from airport it’ll be even quicker. Sometimes a slight delay at the bridge for no explicable reason but it’s 5-10 minutes at worst. As others have said plenty of parking around SP. Train easy too.

Fair enough, I’ve walked that route plenty of times in years past, so no issue. 7 minutes ago, roverthemoon said: Edinburgh airport perfectly fine for arrivals. Never had any problems . Beachbum
From EDI Airport get the bus at the terminal to Park & Ride just outside Dunfermline. Change there and get the connection to KDY bus station. The X26 or X61 will get you to KDY.

steakngravy
Also the X27 from Halbeath takes you into the Town Center fairly regular also there is now a X27A that follows the same route. The bus from Edinburgh airport is the 747 it runs about every half-hour. Failing that get the Edinburgh city buses get on at St James center and get the X60 or X61 from there. Or even a train from Waverly if they are running.
Broken Algorithms
Worth mentioning rail strikes sometimes take place on a Saturday and usually the Fife circle trains are first on the chopping block for expendable services. If that was the case, you can get a stagecoach bus from St Andrews Square bus station in Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy as an alternative.

Also, the X27A is being withdrawn by Stagecoach because of low use. My wife works at Queen Margaret hospital in Dunfermline and she uses the X27 or X61 at Park and Ride depending on the timing of the end of her shift.

I find it much better than going to Edinburgh via Amsterdam, Paris or Heathrow (KLM, AirFrance or BA). But then I’m travelling with young kids so direct flight are much preferable. You can then get train direct from Manchester airport to Edinburgh. Or if you’ll need a car when you’re here, hire one and drive up from the airport.

I’m just noodling ideas for a ridiculously quick and inexpensive visit. Normal type vacation visit, sure, no problem…but if it’s a jet lagged rush, using points to travel and stay for free for a night or two makes more sense. The rail strike issue is the one complicator, but otherwise it’s a plan that takes little money, just a stupid amount of time and effort for very little in return…in short, a true fannish idea.

The arrivals process is usually very smooth and i've never seen any issues with non EU nationals when arriving back from International destinations. 2) I'd recommend the Moxy over the Marriott but that is just personal preference. Either are solid options. 3) If you are going for the train you have Edin Gateway, Edin Haymarket and Waverley all available thanks to the Tram service that runs from the Airport terminal right into the city. They are usually every 8 or 9 minutes so never have to wait long. If you decide to go via Bus, get a East of Scotland Dayrider (£9.50 adult ticket for unlimited travel all day) and jump on the 747 from Edin Airport to Halbeath Park and Ride. From the Park and Ride you can easily get the X58, X60, X61 or X27 to Kirkcaldy and the wait is only usually 20 mins at most before one turns up. San Starko is a 10-15 minute walk from the Bus Station and getting back is just as easy. The 747 service runs until midnight I believe. If you decide to hire a car and drive, plenty parking options. Beveridge Park, Truck Stop on the Prom or one of the many streets around the stadium. Getting across the bridge from Edinburgh side isn't usually the issue, it's getting TO Edinburgh from Fife that is usually the issue in the daytime so you'll avoid that headache.
