He did say that  he met with John Mcglynn and Paul Hartley when Alloa manager , ironically his best 11 he’s played with had 6 ex Rovers players in his line up

Simmons was capable of having some excellent games. Problem with players like that is that they can become passengers if it isn't working out for them. Some players can get by with their work rate even if it isn't their day, Simmons just isn't one of those guys. That's not to say he was lazy, he was just seemed to be one of those players that was either brilliant or anonymous. Scored some vital goals though.

Was always surprised at how much he was hated by Dunfermline. Did some fans not go around with weird cut out masks of his face when he played for Alloa?

Not sure about the masks but there was a section of our support who spent more time abusing him than focusing on what was actually happening on the pitch.

The kenny era saw a particular distinct disconnect between fans and players and he was far from the only one who fans were fed up of.  Kenny had lost the dressing room and it was clearly on show. 

The exact details of that era are complex but IMO Simmons did lack desire at times which obviously made him a target.   The reason that hatred continued so long and as magnified as it was could be due to the timing of it.  Of that squad he had been around long enough for fans to have made up their mind on him but not long enough for him to have be given some slack due to being part of more positive times.   He was also one of the few(if any I’m struggling to think of others) that stick around in scottish football for much after.    There was a group of players kenny brought over from Ireland that ended up returning.  A group that were getting close to retirement and some young  players that largely drifted out of the game,  some stayed at the club under McIntyre and were able to rebuild reputations.   Simmons was in the position of being unpopular, not in a position to improve that and still playing at our level so couldn’t be forgotten.
