The New Raith Rovers Thread

Recommended Posts

That last premier season was literally the end of the world as we knew it, the good times were well and truely over.

I moved to England at the start of the following season, I went to to Forthbank on the opening day and then that was it I've been watching from afar ever since.

possible return to football, but will probably have to watch it on raith tv in the 1st instance. Don’t know how it will work for away fans though.

I’d be more than happy with this. As recent videos have shown, the guys at Raith Tv do a great job. I’d much rather watch online rather than wait until the new year.
The question i do have although it doesn’t bother me is how much do you charge? Taking into consideration that more than one person can view the match per household, where as that can potentially be 2/3 match day tickets.

Well, I'm just happy that the talk is about the club moving towards a phase where we can start playing games.  Lots to sort out, but 2 months ago words such as "administration" were being used in the media - so I guess that is progress.

Live games on Raith Tv is not the ideal but it's probably about the best we could hope for in the circumstances. I'd be delighted to buy a season ticket  now if I could watch games on Raith Tv until such times as the stadium could re-open to fans.

I said earlier that I thought it would come in  3 or more phases, 1, Live streaming from games behind closed doors.  2, Limited access, perhaps access for season ticket holder only.  3, A full return to football as we knew it, perhaps in the 2nd half of the season?

Phases 1 & 2 would preclude away fan attendance so the club will have to work out some method of streaming (at cost) to away fans.

Thinking of how games are streamed on big screens at city centre venues during big tournaments, I wonder if (for phase 2) some sort of hub could be set up so that a limited number of fans could pay to attend a big screen venue (say at SP) so that there would be a way of making money for opposition clubs to negate the loss or away fan revenue?

You'd imagine clubs will cater for away fans on an individual basis. There's no way we'd turn down the chance to have Hearts fans buying into our stream online for example. Ideally, they'll do what Motherwell have done and guarantee that season ticket holders will be covered for games in whatever format is available. Raith have already done this before by giving season ticket holders audio commentary from Raith TV for away games.

Was Alan Kelly a Rovers fan? I seem to recall Kelly Copiers sponsoring Dundee before us. What happened to the boy after us? I remember working at Kelly Copiers offices in Edinburgh back in the early 1990s.

Despite sponsoring Dundee first, it runs in my mind he was a Dundee United fan.

Certainly had no Kirkcaldy or Rovers connection (other than jersey sponsorship) and it appeared his sole strategy was to rely on an invite into the SPL on the basis of meeting the stadium criteria. When it became apparent this wasn't going to happen, he pretty much pulled the plug and walked away.

The guy Miller who owned the tile place on Park Road, and Bar Itza when they sponsored us, was definitely a Dundee fan.

I recall going to the opening day 1-1 draw with Stirling Albion at Forthbank on the opening day of the 1997-98 season and jumping on a bin and getting into the terracing. But it was the home terracing and it wasn’t open. Got escorted round to the away terracing and didn’t have to pay a bean. Away stand was full. Some travelling support that day. Loads of optimism at the start of the day, but 1-1 (did Danny Lennon score?) and then the downward spiral. I only went to a handful more games in the next 7 years.

Yeah, loads of optimism that day and we sang all afternoon. My memory is that Paul Harvey got our goal, but I'd not swear to it.

Just checked Always Next Season and it was apparently Duffield who scored. Crowd 2159.

Really I thought duffield went in the summer. Now there is a bit of an enigma, scored a shitload when he came in then disappeared. Presumably Munro hated him?

If we can go on trains with a mask, could we not do something similar for the football and just make mask wearing compulsory?

I checked Always Next Season and in the 1996/97 season Duffield didn’t score many. He did score our goal in our last ever Premier League game against Hibs; a 1 v 1 draw. He also scored against Dundee United in a 1 v 2 away defeat in March and in a 1 v 5 home defeat to Motherwell in February. Duffield scored the winner in that 1-0 friendly win against Bayern Munich too. In 1997/98 he scored a hat-trick against Forfar in the game after Stirling. Was it that season we sold him?

Always wanted to hear how a last minute winner celebrated by 2000 muffled "YAAAS" shouts would sound like

Goals from Kevin Twaddle and Scott Thomson earned Raith a point against Rangers in front of a capacity crowd at Stark's Park.

Despite being reduced to 9 men, Rovers held on to win 3 priceless points at Tannadice.

I'm glad we're voting no to Budge's blackmail attempt.

Remember that game at Tannadice, some free kick from Stevie Kirk. Those Norwegian boys were decent. The amount of money we spent that season is eye watering though in comparison to what it’s like now (not just for us of course)

Kent Bergersen? Yeah he was good. Can't remember any other decent Norwegian tho, certainly not Odd Arild.

Was Vetle Anderson any good? Can't remember
