The New Raith Rovers Thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah this whole "Mendy doesn't care" thing is a bit weird. By all accounts Benjamin Mendy wasn't all that bothered or offended about Bernardo Silvas' tweet about him, it doesn't mean the tweet wasn't hugely racist.

Out of interest, what was racist about Silva’s tweet?

‘Anything and everything‘ of course being racism, sexism, homophobia, sectarianism and, from your post, complete lack of understanding and stigma around mental health.
Lack of understanding? What I said was correct without anyone knowing the facts that was the first conclusion a lot of people jumped to.

You would like to think so.

The saddest part of this discussion is that it is the younger generation trying to argue that this song is acceptable.

I remember the exact same debate around the whole ‘than a Par’ song. Thankfully, those singing it eventually realised the implications of singing it (intended or not) on the club and stopped. Hopefully once the initial ‘we’ll sing wtf we like’ response passes on this then they’ll reflect on it and bin it. At the end of the day, we’re all Rovers fans and want the best for the club.

The young guys singing at recent games have brought a new energy to the club and improved the atmosphere for all of us. That, along with the how the team and management have been performing has meant that this season has been a real joy to watch compared to recent seasons. It’d be a shame if that gets lost or things turn sour because of one song that could easily be dropped or even reworded.

West End or Great Western Road then up to Firhill is definitely the way to do it

You would have to walk by charring Cross and up Maryhill Road. Great Western Rd takes you to Clydebank. West end is pretentious as fcuk and twice the price for drink.

Great Western Road near Kelvinbridge is a short 20 minute walk to Firhill and has far better pub options than up near the ground.

Have Raith Rovers never had any other players with "big choppers" playing for them? It seems conveniently coincidental that Mendy is the first guy whose knob has become relevant. If you don't take a second to understand why that is then I'm afraid the debate dies here.

I do remember a song about Armand One being hung like a pony.

It seems a lot of people are really really hurt by this song. If it was sooo offensive why weren’t the perpetrators recorded on your phones and reported to the police. Then have the club issue banning orders in said supporters?

Absolutely nobody has asked for a ban of these fans, nobody has even accused them of being racist, just that the song they sing has racist connotations to it. Some fans have quite respectfully suggested they'd prefer the song wasn't sung. That's it - no mention of stopping going to games, banning folk or gagging orders, just a simple "I don't really think that song is appropriate".

Mendy has a big chopper.
It’s as easy at that.
The chant is not based on the players ethnicity, how many times does that have to be stated.
Hamburg fans chant about bates ginger hair no one is crying about that.

The Hamburg fans chant about a Sheffield Wednesday player... do they aye?

It’s all a matter of opinion.

Regardless, it’s still unacceptable for a grown man to stand up and scream at a bunch of kids calling them racist when their intention wasn’t to offend anyone. Can we all at least agree on that..?

But said grown man (HTC) didn’t call the “young team” racist, said grown man was shouting for them to stop the song, that was all. And then followed up by posting on here for it to be nipped in the bud. Which i would’ve said done the job as it wasn’t sung 2nd half, or no where near as frequent as it was 1st half, that’s for sure.

That’s it. It’s not about banning, it’s about educating and knowing what’s wrong.

The young team have done brilliant bringing the atmosphere, and they’re going about it the right way in bringing a pal or 2 to increase their squad. And now on Twitter etc. And trying to sort themselves out with flags etc. It’s great. And the songs are super!

But also the incidents with the chairs & the Nando chant has to stop. As we as a club have a great reputation with other clubs as “soond c*nts” and are always welcome in pubs near by etc. But that’ll soon turn sour if scenarios like the above continue to re-occur.

Also mentioned above, ANNOUNCE A FUCKING SIGNING!
