In fairness that's an argument for dropping Mendy, not for not having Anderson on the post.

I think it pretty much means that dropping Mendy is the only way forward. McGlynn is to blame for not replacing the defence or forward positions adequately. If he says he’s happy with this squad then god help us.

I'd say Benedictus is more detrimental to our defence than Davidson to be honest.

McGlynn’s loyalty to Davo is unbelievable. We scored a shit ton of goals and lost a shit ton of goals in roughly equal measure last season. This season might just be the same, without the scoring of a shit ton of goals if you know what I mean....kind of. It was the best way to articulate the meaning.

I'm not concerned with the forward positions yet.  Hendry is going to offer a lot of drive forward from the middle of the park in a way we've not actually had for a long time. Victoria caused Dundee's defence all kinds of problems, even if his tactical sense isn't brilliant. Allan took his goal well, no reason why he couldn't do well for us this season. Vaughan and Dingwall still to come back in. Even in an injury hit season where he barely got a run of games together, Vaughan still averaged just under a goal a game.

He does need to make a decision on the defence and soon. In fairness, there are a number of combinations he could play that don't involve Mendy, we aren't that reliant on him coming good. However, he's going to have to make a call on whether to cut and run sooner rather than later in that respect.

Precisely, in all fairness I was expecting another kikkuman bottle pic lol

ETA, I’m looking forward to seeing Hendry, he’ll be the target of some robust challenges in this league no doubt as has Vaughan in recent times.

I forgot to press edit too.

I’ll see how we get on against Peterhead on Tuesday. We are miles and miles behind championship level. So a team just promoted should be a barometer of how good or bad we are. By the looks of things and this is just a personal opinion. We aren’t even close to being ready. I’ll retract this statement if we are competitive and win on the night.

Mendy is on a 2 year deal, so obviously the management team saw something there. Its that difficult situation of letting him grow into the game, but we don’t really have that luxury – especially in a position under as much scrutiny as the defence.

Mcglynn has loaded a fair bit of pressure on himself though. Its well documented and universally accepted that the defence was rubbish last season – if he has went out and weakened it further then that’s a bad position for him to be in. He would have a bit more leeway I guess with the Mendy situation If he had actually went out and sorted the right back area, but he hasn’t done that either as of yet.

Its really early days, the league cup is absolutely mental so its important not to get carried away – but the scrutiny will start in under 2 weeks time.

Thing is that McGlynn probably doesn't see it that way. If you think that we technically had Murray and Gillespie under contract at the end of the season, and that we'd signed up Spencer and Hendry (and Matthews had signed a new contract as well) prior to both leaving then it seems likely that those two, Murray and Gillespie would've been in line for that role this season, as he had plenty of cover for central mid if he needed to move Gillespie and Murray had already played a chunk of the season there.

Alongside playing McKay there at the end of the season, McGlynn would've reasoned he had three right sided players who could or had played the position enough to be competent there. None are what you'd call specialised right backs.

Those two leave and Mendy and Miller are the approximate replacements. Miller can play central mid and right back but Mendy is theoretically a centre back only to trade. Hence Dave McKay's starting chances just go up more as he becomes McGlynn's probable starter for that position. He's young, reasonably mobile, physically tall and with a decent range of passing. He won't attack and overlap as well as some right backs but you can see McGlynn's thought process. In his head at least, the position is covered. If not Mckay then Miller, if not Miller then Watson. He'd see that as a well covered position, certainly more so than left back where an injury to MacDonald leaves me scratching my head as to who'd play in there.

He’s signed Mendy on a 2 year deal. He’ll probably need to persevere with him for a bit.

Maybe McGlynn’s ambition is to become the first manager to win the play-offs with Rovers.

I like Davo. He’s much maligned and he seems to be permanently grimacing - playing for Rovers will do that to you - but I like him as a player. I would imagine it’s pretty frustrating playing alongside Mendy at the moment.

Playing an actual Right Back could help our defence. Is that new guy who wears No.2 for us just there to fool the opposition that we have a Right Back?

The obvious move would be to play McKay and Davo at Centre Defence. This has been proven to work but for some reason McGlynn doesn’t fancy it.

I feel that by October the Jimmy Nicholl Mk2 comparisons could be getting floated.

Just watched the first goal at Inverness. If it all goes wrong again tonight, I feel that Mendy needs to get a ‘why always me?’ T-shirt made up.

I hope that Rory McAllister c**t is offshore. Sadly, Derek Lyle won’t be.

Just checked and McAllister was taken off injured at Dundee on Saturday.

I always thought Mikey Miller was always better at centre half when he played for us, and he was tremendous there.  Doesn't appear to have played much there since leaving us though. I imagine he'd be more competent than yer man Mendy though.

Right now there are rugby tackle bags that would provide better stopping power than Mendy.

This tournament is nothing more than a pre season, so lets preserve with Mendy and allow him the 4 games to get up to pace.

I don't understand the clamour for a right back - we've got Watson and McKay don't we? and Miller as cover?

We do have Watson and McKay, but McKay isn't great at RB and McGlynn doesn't seem to favour Watson at all.

We need a good right back, like Jason Thomson but younger.
