The New Raith Rovers Thread

Very pleasing afternoon hope you guys enjoyed your day out in sunny Methil. Going to be some pressure on Craig Wighton to perform as your front players were very poor.

Lewis Vaughan tore your defence a new one every time he got the ball. The other 13 players weren't upto standard though, and over the course of the game, you guys deserved your win. Still, the record stands.

Mark Stewart and Craig Wighton still have to come back in and will strengthen the attack, but we still need the fourth striker as Megginson is not a striker. He's a winger.

Mark Stewart was fairly unimpressive for most of last season, until he was paired with Vaughan. We are putting a lot of faith in that partnership working again this season. What happens if either of them is out? Hope for 0-0 draws or the odd goal from someone else in the team. We really need to get some more goals out of that team. Hopefully this happens as the season progresses.

So, Celtic next up. C'mon You Raith!

Decent enough performance from the lads, particularly since Nathan Austin wasn't available. As previously mentioned, Kevin Smith caused the opposition problems, particularly in the first half. Kyle Wilkie, Declan O'Kane and Scott Mercer are looking like key signings by the Gaffer - hard to believe the panic some posters were getting into over the lack of signings only a matter of weeks ago.

Not getting carried away though, Falkirk away will be an entirely different challenge next week...

Until Smith popped into the phonebox to don his superhero outfit at half time Wilkie was your stand out player ably supported by Mercer.

Your kit man will think it's his birthday as he won't have to launder Goodfellow or Couser's strips.

Ill give you he tried harder than the rest of your team but I cant re call him creating very much. I thought East Fife very comfortable all game at the back

A few points from today aside from the game being utter poison.

1. The trialist was abysmal, genuinely wouldn't get a game for Dysart!

2. We were very lackadaisical today, some of they short passes weren't meeting the receiving player, and from through ins - the pass back was just non existent. Both basic things.

3. We were back to the old ways of bypassing the midfield at times too, and that's 1 thing I've really enjoyed from the 3 previous friendlies that we've tried to play from the back forward.

4. We need a striker (as mentioned by everyone!)

Perhaps the position of our "one more player" will depend on what the injury situation is with everyone.

If Barr is a wee bit away, then we look short of options at the back, especially with Benedictus suspended for next weekend, and Thomson getting a scan on his knee this week.

If everyone is fit up front, you could argue that we've enough options, perming two from three from Wighton, Stewart and Vaughan, or throwing in Anderson or Megginson in an emergency.

I'd like another forward in, but if Barr and Thomson are toiling, then the back four is arguably in greater need of a reinforcement.

In other news, I saw someone who writes for a Rangers website yesterday, tweeting that Barrie Mckay will have a great season this year, as all he needs is good guidance. Good luck with that one.

I doubt that guidance from the Oracle of Delphi could provide the miracle that McKay requires.

2 Injury time goals made it all the sweeter. Considering we had Fash, Campbell and Walker out, a striker at centre half and a stand in left back we did okay! You guys don't even look close to scoring goals and with performances like that your gonna be up against it this season. See you guys next season.

You're not the East Fife Mail reporter, Scott Inglis by any chance? He was getting himself in a right old frothy lather considering it was a friendly.

Incidentally, surely having Walker missing was a bonus?

Some of these guys have probably never seen East Fife beat Rovers. Even in a non competitive fixture.

McKay will probably do alright at Rangers (if he actually gets a game). His complete lack of defensive ability won't be so big a problem and they can also accomodate his specialism in giving the ball away a lot more than we could.

Basically, he'll get away with his shortcomings in a team that is full of better players.

Shame about Elliot. All the best to him in whatever he ends up doing next.
