ATLIS
Far too many folk using this as an edgy joke, bigging up Goodwillie despite the fact he's provably a literal rapist and done very little to own his actions. Folk will say he's their hero etc just to get a cheap angry response out of people and sit and think they're funny. Horrendous

I am truly astounded we have made this signing and taking on the fall out and baggage that will no doubt follow. Lucky you, my standing order has already been processed for midnight tonight, last one they will get though.
Popular Post renton
So I wrote this and fired it off into John SIm's junk folder never to be read. Thought I'd leave it here as my tear stained resignation. Quote Dear Mr Sim, Please find linked, the judgement in the case of Goodwillie and Robertson: https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/search-judgments/judgment?id=d22e28a7-8980-69d2-b500-ff0000d74aa7 Criminal conviction for rape/sexual assault is a notoriously high bar - particularly in Scots law. He was, however, found liable in a court of law. The judge's verdict - upheld on appeal - is extremely clear and the details of the case are fairly grim reading. I would not consider myself particularly reactionary when it comes to the application of law and order. I believe in rehabilitation - but rehabilitation begins with an admission of wrong doing, and then contrition. David Goodwillie has never approached that first point, he does not believe he did anything wrong. How then, can a club that has painstakingly built a reputation as a community outfit taken this approach to signing someone who was found liable for a heinous crime who has never accepted any responsibility for it. I am a father to a 3 year old daughter. I want to help her to grow up confident that she has agency, bodily autonomy - the right to say no, the right to be treated with respect. How then, could I possibly ask her to take me seriously - how could I take myself seriously if I sit in Stark's every other week chanting his name? Cheering when we are winning? It's a team sport and you've made him, and by extension his previous actions a part of that team dynamic. I appreciate your efforts over the years in trying to make Raith something other than a total financial basketcase. I appreciate your ambition to get Rovers to the Premier, and the financial rewards that brings. This however, is a short term stunt that threatens to alienate a good chunk of the Rovers support. You are trading a lot of community goodwill, and medium term stability for the hope that he replicates his good form in the league below and that translates into goals. If he doesn't, you'll have gained nothing and lost a lot. If he does, what you gain may not translate into something sustainable in the long term. I would consider myself a dedicated supporter, I have had a season ticket pretty much every year since my University days, contributed to various fundraisers over the years. I have travelled widely and often in support of the Rovers, and have - even on our worst Saturday afternoons - thoroughly loved the experience of being a Rovers fan. No more, I can't condone this approach. I can't support it. I won't be back for at least the duration of his employment. Maybe I'm in a vanishingly small minority, and you won't miss those like me in your gate receipts. However, I think you have made a horrendous call here, and you are threatening to blow up a lot of what this club has come to mean to the community of Fife. I really did love this club. Regards.

He’s 33 in March but he’s scored 15 league goals this season but he’s a sex offender. It’s a dilemma. Luckily I have few principles, so if he turns out to be excellent then I’ll probably just go with the flow.
foreverarover
For the amount of money we are going to lose as a club we should have well offered Kyle lafferty a few grand a week.
Popular Post Sherrif John Bunnell
I've got a grim sense of deja vu seeing decent, long time Rovers fans react to this news by saying they won't be supporting the club while he is there, while others are using similar pathetic arguments that some Ross County fans are still using to justify their unequivocal support for Malky Mackay. To be honest, it's been a strange and shite feeling not being able to go to Ross County matches and not socialising with pals from the football that I haven't seen since March 2020. (I'm fairly certain some of them no longer consider me to be a friend of theirs, due to my stance on Mackay). It's especially weird on days like Saturday when Ross County have an excellent result and I have zero feelings about it. I've filled my empty Saturday afternoons by going to Nairn County games instead and I've thoroughly enjoyed it to the extent that I'm not sure I'll ever be back in Dingwall for a Ross County game. Hopefully the Rovers fans avoiding Starks for the next wee while can find something similar to do, rather than lose their love of their team for good.
RiG
Once again, not indicated support for or against the signing, just calling out the obvious virtue signalling. Big hard man typing insults like that on an internet forum. Have a word with yourself, fucking twat. It's not virtue signalling in the slightest. People generally don't like rapists and having them rock up at your football club in any capacity tends not to go down well with supporters for so many obvious reasons. Mind boggling that you can be so blasé about something like this.
Brashy's Boots
To all the people not going back and or canceling subsciptions, please think again, your only hurting the club, take it out on the cnut that signed/ sanctiond this fiasco How do you suggest people go about that?

Guest
For us Bairns, looking at Rovers riding high in the Championship is tough. In league standings, you are a mile or so above us. But wait………just take a step onto the moral high ground and where are Rovers?………….oh there they are……….miles and miles and miles below us ( and everyone else other than Clyde and Livingston). You have just handed your 0p in the £ neighbours years and years of material, and I bet they are going to use it. League position is temporary, but this…..this…..it’s forever. To the right minded Rovers fans…….…I truly and genuinely feel for you.

This isn't some PC gone mad nonsense: we've signed a rapist. Whether it's a fortnight, a month, or a year I'll still find it utterly disgusting that the club decided to move forwards with this. What do you suggest? Bit of a protest or just walk away and close the club down?

eez-eh
How fucking stupid do the Raith board and John McGlynn have to be to make that signing? They can’t be so tone deaf to not know it will disillusion hundreds of fans.
foreverarover
Ohya fucker, Well we wanted a proven goalscorer, but at what cost to the club, I hope it works out but this could be the nail that holds McGlynns jacket on the wall coming loose The problem is we are stuck with him for 2 1/2 years. Long after McGlynn is sacked.
lichtiekev
Well, that's the final whistle for me. It's been fun. Like everyone else, this football club has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is having my photo taken in my parents' back garden wearing the full "Kelly's Copiers" kit, the one they recently re-released. I loved that shirt. I've been a season ticket holder for somewhere in the region of 20 years. For the last fifteen that's meant a 100 mile round trip for home games. I didn't mind. It was worth it. It's something I do with my Dad. Going to Rovers games. It's a shared passion, and it's nice to feel part of something bigger. Something that carries with it the hopes and dreams of a community. Something that does good for that community too, and uplifts it. Well, it was nice, until tonight. I can't in good conscious go on from here. I thought about it, before when the rumours first emerged, and again today when they resurfaced. Could I just ignore what he did? Could I maybe just sit on my hands, support the other ten players and ignore him? No, I'm afraid I can't. I can't put my name alongside his, or alongside this club. "Who do you support mate? Oh aye, they just signed..." No thank you, not in my name. People seem all too willing to forget that rape isn't some buzzword. The way this conversation gets framed sometimes you'd think it was like that open goal Chris Iwelumo missed. "Oh, don't sign him, he did that thing that one time". He raped a woman. There's a human being who has to live her life in a totally altered state because of the actions of this man. Nobody mentions her much. I hope she's okay tonight, as her rapist's name reverberates around yet again. I can't imagine she is. So from that incredibly significant impact, to an incredibly small one. I'll be logging off. There's no reason for me to post here anymore, a man without a football club. There's not much call for journeymen P&B posters. I expect I'll still lurk from time to time, the draw of lower league football is just too strong, but it won't be the same. I might pop up now and again, like Yoss does. He always was the best Rovers poster on here. And I might pop up at Stark's Park again. Hopefully just once he's gone. Maybe a year or two. But maybe longer. Can I in good faith cheer the manager who signed him? Or the owner who paid his wages? Maybe I'll have a new team by then. Only time will tell. Goodnight everyone. Enjoy your football. Drive another 40 mile or so more and support a real community club,Fair play to you doing the right think, there will be many more I bet
