The New Raith Rovers Thread

Do we? How can an organisation be "family friendly" that endorses the bigoted pressure group Stonewall? It has become so bad that the government is cautioning against it, big companies are distancing themselves from it,  has misrepresented the 2010 equalities act to dishonestly promote its views, and even the woke BBC has cancelled it over impartiality issues. Its rabidly transgender stance wants to ruin girls sport by campaigning for men identifying as women to compete, and led to it being banned from Exeter University for blocking a gender critical feminist from giving a speech.
"Family friendly"? You're having a laugh.

See the Goodwillie rumour doing the rounds again, gets brought up every time a team is looking for a goal scorer. Won’t happen.  Absolutely no doubt he’d do a job for any club in this league and probably a few in the division above but he’ll finish his career at Clyde. The lad has far too much baggage and while some fans will justify signing him by the fact he’s never been found guilty in a criminal court (Civil is a bit different) most don’t want him near their club as it sends out the wrong message to supporters.  As mentioned there’s a reason no club has signed him from Clyde.

Goodwillie also has a good thing going on at Clyde, the fans have accepted him and dealt with his baggage, he’s on a good salary and playing League 1 football he gets abused by a few dozen fans at Home games a a few hundred at away games.  At 32 with his baggage he’d get a far rougher time from crowds higher up the divisions and that would include his own teams fans to begin with. As long as Clyde continue to meet his wages he’ll play on until he retires.

This condemnation of Goodwillie by self righteous hyocrites has gone on for years and is never ending whenever he is mentioned. The criminal case against him was dropped and a further civil case decided against him  not on proof but "balance of probability".
So you lot that continue to brand him a rapist - were you there? Are you certain? Have you ever stolen anything - just once? Have you ever lied? Just once? Then if he is still a rapist in your eyes then you're still a lying thieving b*****d.

It's a hell of a push to call someone a hypocrite for branding Goodwillie a rapist because they've lied before. Fucking hell.

I did initially think that Cummings might be worth a punt, but he is a most un-McGlynn like player. A wee scum bag ned with too much money and not enough between his ears. Quite suited to them along the road, I’d say.

Quite suited to your fanbase really. @Raith_Raver

You've missed the point entirely. As the famous saying goes, "Let him that is without sin cast the first stone".

Moreover, footballers are not noted for their ethics or morality; the game is rotten with cheating, divingand conning referees and few players are above it. To say that we can't have players with Goodwillie's reputation associated with our club is blind hypocrisy.

Said it a few times but I think we'll kick on when we get Stanton available. Tait doesn't fit well into the Spencer role and isn't as influential as Ross is when playing behind the striker. On Saturday, we had numerous phases where we'd play the ball along the back 4 inviting pressure on, only to punt it to to Varion who had very little support.

I complete agree with what Michael W mentions about Varion. We can get away with it if others are picking up goals but that hasn't been the case over the last few games. I think we're somewhat fortunate in that our "bad spell" has coincided with us hitting a time where we can make changes to the squad. Williamson and Stanton offer alternatives in the middle and ideally we'll add other options up top.

Stanton possesses a nice, wide variety of experience, which will hopefully help us out across the board…but we’ll have to see the proof in the pudding.

Probably the best description I’ve read on his situation tbf.

Libelling Stonewall and defending Goodwillie is quite a hill to die on. Add "Hitler was misunderstood" and we can phone someone for you.

Scott Burns linking it too now. Honestly, that's fucking horrific if it goes through. We've got a female SLO and an ever growing female fan base. Some message to send to them. This isn't some drunken brawl at a nightclub which has got out of hand. It's gone through the courts, and the appeal got reviewed by 3 judges and the case was upheld. Get this in the fucking sea.

If anyone is leaning towards the "he was acquitted in a criminal court!" argument to justify this move, I'd grimly encourage them to read the final judgement from the civil case, which is readily Googleable. I'm no expert on the machinations of Scots Law, but I can recognise the actions of a truly despicable man when they're laid out in front of me.

Holy f**k. This took a turn.

As an aside, when someone throws about the term ‘woke’ it is pretty much always someone pining for a time when we could call people of a different race, sexuality or gender bad names and not get called out for it. Probably thinks it’s ridiculous we can’t sing ‘I’d rather be a **** than a Par’ anymore. Ah, the good old days, eh?
