What you are basically looking for is Goodwillie, a player that we would never sign. So if we look around, Wrighton (at the Pars) would have been an excellent piece of business, but I suspect we felt secure with Vaughan and Keatings early on. I’m not sure I get the Gullan love-in, other than familiarity, as he wasn’t that prolific when he was with us last year.

Lets face it, at our level, a striker or two appear via loan and the rest of the teams make do with developing someone, or cobbling together some group of options. For us, Varian is working out very well, and I would expect us to retain him for the Spring if his play and development continues, because he won’t slot into Stoke’s starting side if he leaves in January. Poplatnik, the word is Livi isn’t in a rush to get him back, so he may stay too. So where is our massive need for a CF, we play one, not two. Do we desire coverage, yes…can we afford coverage???

We need another attacking player in Tx no question, another injury or suspension and we are toiling, fotheringham looks poor and not ready for this level so Dario and Aiden need some real competition or another goal scorer, Celtic £’s are a bonus we hopefully use as we don’t want dragged into a relegation dogfight and we have lost two strikers. If no one is brought in then we should have kept keatings and hopefully got him fitter.

Keatings has been with us for months, a full time professional footballer. He trains with the rest of the team and attends the gym regularly, working harder than some, according to someone who has seen the players in there. Do you really believe the issue is that he's just not fit enough and all we had to do was get him fitter?

No I don’t but I was just towing the party line so to speak, still doesn’t change my view, if needed to he should have played and helped the team as he was happy to and we were happy to give him a 2 year deal🤦🏻‍♂️ If we bring no one in then that would be another poor decision in a  recent trend of poor decisions made by the club/manager

Well, quite. Selling Tait when there was no need, letting an experienced striker walk out the door under strange circumstances accompanied by a fairly odd statement....

I maintain that a successful season for us is not bothering the bottom two places.

If he was on 10 goals and had started the season on fire we'd have folk slaughtering the manager for not getting him on a 2 year deal. You run the risk with these types of contracts. There are players in the past like Tade and Baird who would've left at the end of the first season had they been on one year deals.

For me it's not the length of the contract, just everything else. Did McGlynn get fleeced and not realise before he came in that Keatings was in poor physical condition? Has there been a massive falling out that has become unfixable? If so, why the stupid statement? Was Keatings fine and then fell apart? Did we really decide to throw the dice on two guys with questionable fitness and both have ended up long term injured or incapable of training?

Aye, that's pretty much it. It makes no sense to have a player out on a short term loan while also putting it a statement which does nothing but piss them off.

In short, nobody fucks things up more than Raith Rovers.
