We haven’t had a chance to reinvest the Tait money, nor should we rush.

I do agree that the summer recruitment was somewhat poor but this deal doesn’t impact that.

But IMO it compounds it as the squad is poorer, I don’t think tait staying is a good thing as he is a hibs player now, that’s where his head will be. Hopefully I’m wrong

I’ve no problem with the reality of life as a smaller club. It’s Sim acting the big man and promising folk top tier and European football whilst selling key club assets that’s the problem. Yet another club owner driven by ego.

When did Sim promise top tier or European football? He stated it should be an aspiration and theres no reason that has changed. Cast your mind back only 3 years ago. We’re in league 1, failed to get promoted with a average squad and limited fan engagement. Now we’ve just come off the back of finishing 3rd in the Championship, playing great football, sold 2 players totally £250k + incentives (given the fact we rarely got a fee for anyone before and both these players cost is nothing). The club is moving in the right direction, and yes makes mistakes but we’re all human and forms part of reason we support this club. Sometimes you just needs to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

I may be totally wrong but did he actually promise top tier and European football or was it just perhaps an ambition to try to get to that level? Maybe setting a bar to aim for? If he did indeed make an actual promise then that was maybe not the best thing to have said.

Not so much a promise as a stated ambition for the club, although Europe was ‘once a generation’ to be fair. If you state ambitions then you need to demonstrate actions to strive towards that ambition. Selling Tait cheap clearly doesn’t fit the stated ambition. Not even close. It’s like me saying I’m going to end up in a relationship with Scarlett Johansen.

That's possibly a tad overambitious tbh😄

Feel free to count them yourself if you want an exact ratio. I was merely countering the assertion that transfers with the fee clearly declared are the equivalent of spotting a snow leopard in the wild. Anyway, it’s all academic as we pretty much know it was £100k

A quick Ctrl+F finds the following.

Loan = 122

Free =75

Undisclosed = 60

£ (fee) = 16

How exactly am I talking pish? I said plenty of deals have a price tag had a fee attached. Which they do from the unedited list Zen linked to. Yes, plenty are undisclosed but these two facts are not mutually exclusive.

Fair enough but the point I’m trying to make is that just because it’s undisclosed, doesn’t mean its a bad deal like you implied.

Who knows but he’s now a Hibs player on loan with is, much like Gullan was. He fought to prove himself and didn’t shy away. I can only hope and believe Tait will do the same.

And if we go down this year which is a possibility then the£250k will disappear down a big hole. I am a bigger picture kind of person but some of the signings and things we have done this summer is bewildering to say the least, all I can say is Will the real James keatings please show up and soon

It’s undisclosed, so we’ve no idea if it’s a good or bad deal. Going on the leaked info from Hibs then it looks a bad deal, but then that could easily be wrong. Maybe I’m a cynic but If it was a great deal for the Rovers, I suspect we’d hear about it either officially or unofficially.

Covid may swallow some of it but if it’s coming off the balance sheet whilst remaining competitive then I don’t have a problem with it. As for Keatings, we seem to be hearing more about the knee specialist than the one from ICT.

We pretty much know the deal anyway undisclosed or not. I think we’ll have to agree to disagree but i think £100k + future incentives is reasonable fir points I’m almost fed up of listing.

Without loans and frees that’s 1 in every 5 transfers disclose an exact fee. That’s ‘plenty’ in my book. It’s not rare.

The fact is that the overwhelming majority of deals are undisclosed. That doesn’t mean its a bad deal, just parties choosing to keep finances private. Bare in mind some clubs HAVE to announce fee’s as they’re on the stock exchange so you’d likely see more undisclosed if this wasn’t the case.

No idea what the much hinted at incentives are. Could be a bag of used balls for all I know. Going on the 100k alone, I think it’s selling the club and player short given his potential and the length of contract. Given the current player situation at the club it feels very short term thinking rather than investing in building something. Just an opinion based on a leaked figure. Might be the best deal ever. Who knows?

Its not the McManus days. Whilst it’s speculation I would imagine the incentives would include so much based on so many appearances, goals, assists, international appearance, sell on %.

Each to there own, I think there are 2james keatings and we got the wrong one 🤦🏻‍♂️ Looks a shadow of his former self and in the small amount of game time finished at this level

We’ve no idea so probably pointless speculating. Anyway, we are where we are. No choice but to get on with the season with the current squad. Still think we’re good enough to definitely stay up and perhaps challenge for a play off. Time will tell.

As much as I’m disappointed at the deal, it’s more a continuation of the fact we’ve failed to build on last season’s success, rather than the specifics of Tait’s sale.

The thought of Tait joining  Hibs for £100,000 doesn’t feel like a great deal, but without searching, how many teenagers, with fewer than 80 games in the second and third tiers under their belt command that kind of fee between two Scottish clubs?

I do think we’d have gotten more from a team down south, but presumably none bid, and on top of that, I’m going to presume that the only way we can get talented young players to sign three year deals with us, is because we’ll listen to any half decent offer we get for them.

It might be a gentleman’s agreement, it might be a genuine release clause, but without it, I doubt these players will be signing for us.

As it stands, £100,000 for a teenager who may, or may not be good enough for Hibs isn’t a steal, and if it is, hopefully we have a decent sell on percentage to compensate.

That said, the squad after January looks shite, but I’ll worry about that then.
