Feel so sorry for wee Vaughan.Injury after injury, set back after set back. Hopefully for him he gets better news when he sees the specialist in a weeks time and its not going to be something thats going to hamper the rest of his playing days

Not only is he a quality player but hes  shown  some mental strength to keep coming back

You're right so he did. Forgot about that.

In other news Musonda has apparently had a set back and will be out for a further 6 weeks.

4-6 weeks is quoted, up to.

Still need to watch it but apparently in McGlynns post match interview Vaughan seeing a specialist tomorrow. Suppose this 6 week window isn't set it stone... could be longer.

…or shorter, just saying.

Losing Vaughan hurts a bit, but we have some options. Not getting Frankie back as early as hoped hurts, but with McKay and Lang healthy now, isn’t that critical. Overall, Spencer might be more of a miss than Vaughan.

Missing Vaughan will have a bigger impact on us than missing Spencer. Both started the season very well but vaughan is the best player in the team. Hopefully keatings can make the position his own so we don't feel the loss as bad, if that is the route mcglynn goes down.

Livi can you loan us Harry please as we're gubbed with injuries yet again.

I'm still bewildered by our recruitment this summer and with the loss now of Vaughan which is always a liklihood in all honesty.

Wonder why we didn't go for Gullan again, was he too expensive, did he not fancy it?

Very much with you on that, not been impressed by the managers acquisitions, hopefully they now step up to the plate

We're taking injuries to a new level with this synchronised 6 weeks at a time thing.

Couldnt agree more- a wonderful player. Even opposing fans rate him and really respect his mental strength. Hopefully he comes back again, as after every setback is does not seem to affect his returning performance. Remarkable-👏👏

Hi everyone, it has been brought to my attention that my 14 year old son Martin has been using this football forum under this alias. Recently his moods have changed drastically and his mother and I have found out that it has been because of the astonishing criticism he has faced. While he was originally "having a laugh" on this forum, we have found that he felt it was important to stick to his guns and stand up for what he feels. As parents we are obviously concerned for his wellbeing and have warned him of the dangers of using these forums over the internet. However, reading back, a lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves for the way you shot down someone who had a difference of opinion. He did see himself as a Raith Rovers supporter, but now feels let down by the people he thought were fellow fans. In particular, RW and Bambino, i hope you don't believe everything people write to you over the Internet. Maybe you also need some growing up as does my teenage son. Hopefully Martins learnt a lesson from this but as "ambassadors" of your football club, a lot of you should be ashamed of yourselves for not listening or acknowledging another's opinion. Not everyone has to agree with what you say. You won't be hearing from SuperHans again but I will say well done to my son for sticking to his guns.

The new P&B update has most popular posts on threads. In the 12 years this thread has been running two of the three most popular on this thread are tied into this post. I still remember bursting out laughing when I read this.

I’m still going to disagree. Vaughan has been very important, certainly, but I think the loss of Spencer seemed to take more out of us. Matthews is a different player and also is still getting back to full fitness and involvement. After another couple of games for Matthews, I would likely agree though.

On a related note, a midfield of Spencer/Tait/Matthews seems possible in the mid-future, and would harken back to the excellence of last year, so if we do that, would be be dropping one of the wings (Connolly or Zanatta) or Poplatnik for Vaughan and keep both wings?

If Vaughan is fit, then he plays. Mcglynn has also been proactive in playing him in his best position. Vaughan is a game changer for pretty much any club in this league. Spencer as good as he has been so far this season and since he signed for us isn't in the same way Vaughan is. With all that said, I don't think we have a striker that would work with Spencer Tait and Matthews as a 3 if Vaughan is fit and playing in his best position . The 343 showed poplatnik playing with his back to goal for the majority of the game and that is where we need Vaughan or potentially keatings to be playing off of him. I do not like 343.

Certainly with regard to Vaughan fit, but you bring up another thought, which is what is our best formation for this year. Let’s assume all currently on the squad players are healthy, what formation and lineup do we choose? Here’s one thought, but is it the best choice?

Keeper - MacDonald

Defenders - Tumilty/Musonda/Bene/Dick

Midfield - Tait/Matthews/Spencer

Forward - Connolly/Poplatnik/Vaughan

I think the squad has been built around Vaughan being our best player but with flexibility to change to different formations etc. If Vaughan is fit he plays and personnel permitting in his best position. So the 433 you're suggesting doesn't work in that scenario. It's more likely a 4231 as our best formation, just like we've played so far when Vaughan has been fit. He isn't playing directly next to poplatnik but interchanging with him and one of them have been deeper to help defend when required. We are pretty fluid with how the front "4"play though and that is clearly by design.

Zanatta better than Connolly

I read somewhere that Vaughan had torn his meniscus.

There'll be different levels of damage of course but I had an op in March for the same thing on both sides of my knee and was told not to even think about football or running until October.

Vaughan will have better physio than I did but if it's a bad tear, it'll be months rather than weeks.

Time for James Keatings to step up.

Mcglynn seemed pretty upbeat about the fact Vaughan felt fine and didn't feel like it was too serious.

That said, we all know now that knee injuries are a fucking lottery.

I was still training through the pain before it was diagnosed as a torn meniscus all the while convincing myself that it would iron itself out.

The plus side is that it's keyhole surgery. The downside being that although the knee looks fine, you need to wait on it repairing underneath.
